They would all still look the same and only teams with unlimited resources could afford to play.

Today's racing requires a level playing field to keep it competetive for the majority and to keep the fans interested.

Yes but they have taken the "level playing field" too far. The series is now like IROC, all the cars are the same, and even worse they are not like the street cars that the manufactures sell. The rules are so tight that the only difference is the paint/decal design. And they change that just to keep you buying the die cast models on QVC.

I agree completely. I think we all miss identifying with car makes/models, but you have to admit that even the current new cars are hard to differentiate.

Obviously, the more money you throw at technology the better it gets, whether that's motors or aerodynamics or suspension etc.. Back in the good ol days there was a limit spent because purse sizes were barely enough for teams to survive. The teams with the most money/resources/cheats, not only won, but dominated completely, sometimes winning by a lap or more.

Today it's about crazy purse/sponsor money and technology that is almost unlimited. Today's backmarkers and their teams can compete and survive seasons without having to finish in the top 20.

I think NASCAR had the foresight to see what was important at the expense of technological diversity. They just can't do it like they did 30+ years ago and keep 50 teams vying for 43 spots in the field every week. The game is too expensive.

NASCAR has built the marketing around the drivers and personalities during the past 10-15 years. Dale Sr., J. Gordon, Dale Jr., J. Johnson, etc, etc,. They had to do this to widen thier appeal, ie; bring women fans on board. The cars have become just a tool to determine who crosses the finish line first and do a STUPID burnout.

Yes. So?

So, nobody forced you to attend, right? Frankly, the one time I saw NASCAR cars was at a historic races, not quite the same thing...but damn, I found them every bit as entertaining as the other cars, Can-Am included. They turned some impressive lap times around PIR...VERY impressive.

I just like racing...period. Road, Oval, Drags, you name it...I'll watch & enjoy.

i always disliked nascar because the cars are all the same. if i want to watch a real car race, i pop in my La Mans DVD with Steve McQueen.

However, seeing the nascar guys screaming past you, about 50 feet away from where your standing, was a real thrill. ill do it again anyday so long as its not an oval track.

I LOVE the big tri-ovals. Seeing 35 Cup cars go drafting by at about 200mph has to be experienced first hand to be understood fully.

i can see how that might be pretty cool. on tv, i dont get the thrill of going round and round

in person, such things are way more intense. no oval tracks near me though

It's a lot like the top fuel dragster thread. It's one of those things you just have to see, hear, feel...

i bet it is.

same thing for the blue angels and thunderbirds.

the first time i saw/heard that in person i was blown away. floored by it!!! car racing, motorcycle racing has alot of the same thrill.... hell, if its loud and fast, and takes skill and gut, i like it
