NASCAR at the Glen

Even the haters should enjoy the road course racing.

Starts in about 10 minutes, 11:20 PDT.

Nascar road course vs. Kobe (Basketball) I will opt for Nascar

I was there both days. I had a free ticket so I went. Never been a fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a lot of fun. The cars were much louder than I expected, which I loved, and really fast. I was at turn 11 but left just before the huge crash. Watkins Glen is absolutely beautiful!!! It was a nice drive in the 911 and wine touring on the way home.

Minkoff, ill be sending you that book this week. Im on vacation all week and will get to the post office. sorry about the delay

a short vid at turn 11 is here. i took it just prior to the crash

Thanks Scott, Natasha is still on line for law school, she does the Princeton review next month. Pretty good race, that wreck was crazy, I hope Labonte is OK he was airlifted to the hospital. He was holding his ribs on his way back to the paddock.
Kurt is on fire.

ramonesfreak 08-10-2008 02:45 PM

i had to leave cause i drove my bike today and wanted to beat the traffic and rain storms, otherwise i would have been standing about 50 feet from that pile-up. saw it on the news when i got home

You must have been to WG many times, that is where I would sit ..

ramonesfreak 08-10-2008 04:07 PM

nope. im ashamed to say that this weekend was my first time visiting the track...im hooked now. its awsome. this is where the local PCA DE events are. my car is not track-worthy so i wont be doing that, but ill be going to vintage races next month hopefully and ill see if i can sneak into the Ferrari track day event later this month as an observer

126coupe 08-10-2008 04:11 PM

Vintage and club racing I doubt if you need to sneak in.
Here on the west coast its all access
I warn you if you go to a POC event, they may get hooked and you will be turning your Porsche into a track car.

TimT 08-10-2008 04:49 PM

Good views from the bleachers outside the track at turn one, also the bleachers in the esses

Watkins Glen is such a huge track, and in hilly terrrain, that there are good views of most of the turns. The back of the track ( inner loop, laces, toe , etc) can be viewed from the ground... no grandstands back there..

I'd rather see Can-Am cars at the Glen.

You ever actually watch NASCAR live?

chapo 08-10-2008 09:43 PM

Can Am?? That ended When? all 0dozen cars that would show up, and three of them competitive? History is not always so rosey. It would be cool in theory, but..

I'd rather watch 12 different cars than 30 of the same car with different paint jobs and decal headlights.

Let's for one minute pretend CanAm had the prize money NASCAR does. How many different manufacturers do you think would be competing? How many race teams would there be if there were no limits on horsepower or other mods? You'd see 15 Chevys or Fords or Dodges or whatevers. They would all still look the same and only teams with unlimited resources could afford to play.

Today's racing requires a level playing field to keep it competetive for the majority and to keep the fans interested.

ramonesfreak 08-11-2008 06:20 AM

i always disliked nascar because the cars are all the same. if i want to watch a real car race, i pop in my La Mans DVD with Steve McQueen.

However, seeing the nascar guys screaming past you, about 50 feet away from where your standing, was a real thrill. ill do it again anyday so long as its not an oval track.

After a while, you forget that all the cars are the same and you focus on more subtle things going on, like brakes on fire and some cars drifting while others are not, very slight variations in sounds...im not gonna rip on nascar anymore.

any car that sounds like that has got my respect and the drivers obviously have balls of steel
