Vacation suggestions for Pacific Northwest
My girlfriend and I are planning a 4-5 day vacation in the pacific northwest. Not quite sure where we want to go or what we want to see yet though... hope you guys could help with suggestions. We'd like a mix of the more touristy stuff with a solid hike or two. We'll be camping most nights.
thanks! |

Rent a car and head for the Olympic Pennsulia. Drive up Hwy 101 along Hood Canal, see Port Townsend (where I grew up), Sequim and Port Angeles. Great hikes in Olympic Nat. Pk, and it's right there......On the way back to the airport, take the ferry from Pt. Townsend to Whidbey Island, see Deception Pass, Mt. Erie, and see the San Juans by doing a "walk on" of the ferry at Anacortes.....

If you're going to WA, do what LakeCleElum spelled out. Doesn't get much better than that.
I'm on my way, Saturday, to 10 days in the San Juans in my S / V...woo-hoo! |

Timberline Lodge. Well worth a visit, plus there are lots of great camp sites in that neck of the woods.

Take a drive on the Oregon coast - be sure to include Highway 99 from 101 and turning inland. It takes you thru the Redwoods. Keep going and head to Crater Lake. Then swing over to Bend (everything in the world to do there) and go to Smith Rock.
Get a little of everything - forest, coast, mountains, desert. angela

Last time I was in Seattle, I rented ki-ack's on Lake Union. It's beautiful paddling thru the house boats, the university and the wilderness beyond that.
On another day, we went to the Olympic Rain Forest for a short hike. It's probably the most green you will ever see. Of course the city is always great and has the best seafood restaurants anywhere. |

Another vote for Oregon. I would visit Eugene for the Saturday market or see when they have their wine festivals, many local wineries out there. The coast is beautiful there. Drive up to Seattle and stop at Mt. St. Helens on the way. If you have more time, Vancouver.
