computer speaker ques

My son's really into limewire and has 1,000+ collection of tunes, but just recently his speakers changed their sound which now sounds like a concert hall, not normal (reminds me of reverb). I've looked at everything I could (not that up on these things) Any of you guys know a simple fix?

My computer has a program to tailor sound. You might look into anything that relates to the sound card. I don't know what machine you have, but my HP came with Windows Media and I think the program is in the media part. It shows the various combinations of front, back, sub wolfer, etc. Plus how to configure all of it including the type of sound.
