who cares about copyright?

Evidently not the Ohio Republican party or (maybe) the McCain campaign

Bad kitty!

The next thing you know, he'll be plagiarizing campaign speeches. Just like Obama.

Jackson Browne has been running on empty for some time himself. He should appreciate the exposure. I used to be a big fan until he went hyper-political on us.

IIRC Jackson Browne was Mr. No Nukes.
Seems that gig doesn't come with the same glitter it once did.

talk about running on empty, please correct me if I am wrong, but the McCain narrative so far seems to have been:

I'm a maverick

then

I'm a war hero

then

I'm not that famous guy that everyone loves, and BTW, about that other guy, and then the other guy said this and then the other guy went there and then that other guy, can you believe what he did next, he did...

Running on empty indeed. McCain has hard-on for Obama that would keep Ernest Borgnine alive forever!

In other news, the McCain Campaign adopted a new original campaign song entitled:

"Jackson Browne, why don't you shove your frivolous lawsuit straight up your cornhole, at least you were getting some airplay, la la la"

ENOUGH with the hand-wringing crowd protecting their "copyright" when someone of the opposite party uses their composition in connection with a campaign. Do the Democrats have a license agreement for THEIR campaign songs? If not, then would we be justified in assuming they are in the public domain and can be resold as ringtones without royalty? As soon as we find a Republican who has written something worthy (gonna be a long time in the catalog for that one) I'm sure the opposite case will be true.

I care, its what makes the GPL work, I just have issues with the way it is implemented in this country. And, if the McCain campaign didn't license the song for use, well, under our current laws, they are stuck.

Maybe since McCain (and heck Obama and Hillary too!) is still functioning in the body that *made* the copyright laws the way they are now they (the 'ticians) can change it back to something sensible.

Songs are not resold as ringtones without royalty. In fact that makes up a huge share of pop stars income!!!

There is no automatic license. This isn't frivolous at all.

For copyright the onus is on the holder to protect their ip.

Not so easy, the first (his staff) has to get permission. Just like if you were the owned the publishing of, let's say, Jimi Hendrix, and like, Scion wanted to use Foxy Lady, Jimi's copyright holders could say no, in order to keep integrity of the brand. See?
