Track bikes - everything that makes them go fast...and nothing else!!!!

Sounds like a recipe for race cars!

It was a nice candy apple red but it was chipped to hell. I figured I'd take it to the chemical stripping place and, while there, I would decide on the color. Two days later I go to pick it up. It came back chrome. Turns out a lot of these custom Japanese keirin frame builders chrome first, then paint over. No more deciding. Chrome it is.

Sweet. Gotta go redline flights. Good choice. Or profile.

bell 09-20-2008 08:04 PM

the flight 401's i have i've had since about 1990, they've been perfect up until one of the bearing races split, still strait as ever and handle my abuse :D

HardDrive 09-20-2008 10:08 PM

I can't believe you guys still know all this stuff. I had a Redline back in the day.

bell 09-21-2008 06:38 AM

it's just like riding a bike........:D

back in the late 80's/early 90's bike parts would break regularly, i used to snap cranks/handlebars all the time from the aggressive street riding i used to do....
there were some parts which would simply not break.

i had so many bikes......let's see what i can remember....in order of my getting them, i know i'm forgetting a few, but i bought every one after the performer as a frame/fork and transfered my parts
i paid for every single penny of bike stuff myself from working my part time job back in the day,

1. kuwahara magician.........got stolen
2. gt performer....
3. gt pro freestyle tour in chrome (still have and what i rode the most)
4. skyway something or other...
5. kuwahara bravo
6. redline RL22
7. haro master
8. specialized fatboy (the one i'm currently building)

not sure why i remember the details, haven't thought about alot of this stuff in years and years, i can still remember every "spot" we used to spend hours at riding in detail.....

I acually still have a 1976 Redline Square back with Cook Bros. hubs:D
And for my Mongoose Moosegoose, I have a set of pinchless 401s, yep, the very first style of flites:D

pinchless 401's are true old school, mine are the pinch type.......
i'm going to spot weld the broken outer race for the bottom bracket bearing to see if i can save it, it was a clean split and if i clamp it it spins perfectly......we'll see if i get lucky as i've been having a ***** of a time finding a replacement bearing for them......
