Opener of Dove season

Just curious to hear how the opener of Dove hunting was for those Pelicans who hunt?

For the morning shoot, our group of three only harvested 10 birds. We hunting over cut safflower and Alf Alfa fields, the temp was in the upper sixties and the wind howled like a banshee. This is the first year as far as I can remember that we did not limit out...the birds were just not there.

We will see how the evening shoot goes...hopefully better.

Cheers,

Richard

All I hunt for is that perfect apex and the perfect corner.

My father will take my 16 year old son deer hunting again this fall. This year I hope they get a buck!

Tons of birds, all flying in the wrong direction...I still have soybeans in my fields and won't let anyone shoot a bird over soybeans since you'll never find them.

In the one hay field and pasture we did fine...6 birds with .410's. I only let folks hunt Doves with .410's...which we all prefer. So do the Doves

The .410 is my gun of choice...I shoot a Remington 1100 Sporting for Dove and Pheasant. You don't hit them all, but I sure have a great time.

That is really the key, isn't it. The boys, four of them 16 and under, had a ball. They each got one and can describe in detail the moment. They all sound like Tiger Woods retelling a cut three wood at the Masters

first opener i've missed since i started hunting. usual hunting buddy is on vacation and i spent Sunday in NJ at the Rolex race thus didn't really have any points left to use.

went to the water park with the family and had a good time then washed/cleaned up the 911 after parking in that godawful dust bowl of a race track.

Just finished off the evening shoot...OMG! The wind settled down a little and the birds were flying like waves of black birds. We shot our limit within an hour and had no problems finding the downed ones. What a great evening we had...the wife was so happy that I came home early, she asked me to wash her mini van.

Best regards,
Richard

I didn't have anywhere to hunt this year We've moved and I've not gotten hooked up with hunting yet. I did the WMA land one year but got peppered and haven't been back. Since that is the only place I have to go here I didn't want to venture into WMA land on opening day.

I did take the 911 and bust up some backroads with some other folks here in Nashville. That was about the best substitute for missing opening day.

My neighbor just came back from Taft Ca. and said it was slim pickens as the two of them only got 4 total.

I heard Parrot tastes like chicken. There are a dozen or so nesting close by. Here are a couple pictures from my back porch. They screech/squawk and are just generally noisy.

Noisy, but beautiful birds. Wish they flew south. Wiki says they're a Red-crowned Amazon. They're native to northen Mexico, so not too far from home.

Nah... I like to shoot, but only non-breathing targets. Hunted pheasants as a kid with the old man, but I'm more of a fisherman when I get the chance.

LOL, we counted 13 quail and several doves in our backyard this morning. We have rabbits too. I figure if SHTF we'll have a steady source of protein

I feel like such a chump.

I have been a little sad all day because I was not able to nurse a baby dove my wife found in our front yard back to health. She passed away after 3 days. When her health suddenly deteriorated last night, I wrapped her in a cloth, put her in a warm place and left some soft classical music playing for her. I buried her in my back yard this morning.

What a strange world we live in...

Mike

many hunters would do the same.

be wary of sick wild animals though.

I was looking at the Winchester 9410 on the internet and thought it looked like a nice shotgun to consider buying. Anyone have one?

Seahawk, what's the time frame for dove season in MD? Thanks?
