The Model T wheel; design and construction borrowed significantly from the stagecoach wheel:

A piece of trivia, the open hand that you see on the knockoff on a Borrani wheel shows that they paid a patent royalty to Rudge Whitworth (British motorcycle, see my sig) for the offset spoke design. SmileWavy

Being an old VW guy, I always loved 4 bolt sprint stars!
Not my car, but a good shot of the wheels....

Really, aren't a huge number of these related??

The Torque-thrust D, Cragar SS and Fuchs are extremely similar as well as many other copies. I suspect that some of them were patterned after the others. So which came first. I think there was even an old Lotus racecar that had wheels that looked pretty much the same except for no holes. So it seems that several of these wheels have common roots.

Even the BBS mesh wheels, of which there were innumerable copies appear to me to be trying to look like old wire wheels.

i wonder how rare that 917 space saver is?

These were very popular. Similar to other same vintage American designs:

And then of course this one - timeless and on any benz for what - 20 years?

Of course, these are just hubcaps, but iconic nevertheless:
