Say it slowly. I know it's painful for you at first but hopefully you'll get used to it.

The government does not exist to redistribute wealth. The government does not exist to dish out charity at every whim. The government does not exist to provide for people's every need. Sorry. That's what private charity is supposed to be for.

I know two unwed mothers who until last year were in a government-sponsored house for unwed minor mothers. When they turned 18, they were out.
Now they both have apartments, jobs, child care, and the basic necessities. All provided by members of my church. The next time people here go around bad-mouthing religion, they should ask themselves what they have done to help others.

Oh, I don't know. Haven't percieved that the Obama supporters that I've been in contact with feel threatened - bemused perhaps. But, whether you realize it, or would admit it, there are more than a few Repubs that aren't entrenched in the evangelical base of the party that are also bemused.

Kurt, I also have a daughter, so we're in the same boat. This poor girl's life has no place in the public eye, those who tormet her are quite frankly dickless cowards.

That's very true (as pertains to anyone tormenting her - especially added to the torment the poor girl must be experiencing due to the mistake she made).

Unfortunately, when a dickless political candidate self righteously promotes "family values" it's bound to happen since it will inevitably bring up in some the old saw "Do as I say, not as I do!

No man (or woman) with any sense of integrity or virtue publicly abuses a 17 year old pregnant girl to further his agenda. Can you imagine the fury of her father?

What man seeking to further his agenda is doing that? Clearly not Obama.

My Dad wore me out one day...I had lied to him about something.

I'll paraphrase, but his words to me went along these lines: Mistakes are inevitable, we're human. But, lie about it, fail to take responsibility...that means you have no character and you're not the type of man I want to know.

I know that's parenting 101, but he lived it. I've since done my best to emulate his character.

Palin is human, so is her daughter...I'm more concerned about the character of some of the posters here.

What's even more sad is there are people who are using this person's private misfortune for their own personal gain, furthering their own agenda. And then there are those who pass judgment but have never raised a daughter.

I have a 15 year old daughter. She's a very good kid and knows the difference between right and wrong, she understands personal responsibility.
Can I guaranty she will always make the right decision? No, I can't. I wish I could but I can't. I raised her the best I could and I hope for the best.
The fact is, even the best teenagers do stupid things sometimes. Most of the time they get away with it. Some times they don't.

No Kurt, he clearly does not. It is what you do after something like this that makes the difference. Mr Obama would terminate the pregnancy very quietly then deny it ever happened. Dipso is on my ignore list, maybe is alone there since Pat was banned. Mule and Byron are mildly to moderately looney all the time. Palin is a Nazi
Palin hid her daughter's first child by pretending it was hers
Palin thinks Iraq is a holy war
Palin is forcing the daughter to wed

Not to mention the numerous personal attacks on the daughter, Palin, and the husband. There's a number of people on this BBS more than happy to play the game. Even worse, some of these created rumors have been picked up as news by the media. Of course it's been the left leaning networks, but they've still been broadcasting hate on a national level.

I was actually not speaking of Obama in regards to furthering an agenda, I was speaking of the bloggers that spew this filth. Obama doesn't need to stoop to their level, though he reaps the benefits each time one of these lies is reported as fact.

Why is promoting family values self-rightous? What is wrong with trying to make the right choices? We try, and sometimes we get it right, sometimes not. Right now my poll is 54-0 in regards to pre-maritial sex. Were we all raised as hippies? Or are we overall good moral people that fell prey to hormones, emotion, and the stupidity of youth?

Had you actually read what I posted, you would have realized that I was referring to the bloggers who spread the lies as dickless. I have no intention of retracting that statement, as spreading lies and rumors about a pregnant 17 year old is quite the opposite of what I view as a man.

Do I believe it would be different? Perhaps, perhaps not. Both sides certainly have their fair share of nuts and zealots. However, I can confidently say that I would not spread rumors and lies about Obama's kids. They are not a party to this madness, and should not be a target of the mud slinging.

Yes indeed! Happens ALL the time here. The fact that this board is heavily weighted to the right means that, of course there's more right wing crap than left wing crap. That doesn't change the fact that it's ALL crap.

I just posted that if the Dem and Repub labels were swapped in this current set of circumstances, the same type ignoramuses would be talking and acting the same way. It's despicable and is not exclusive or more common in one party or the other.

The fabric of family values has been shredded over the years in this country and in my opinion it's inperative that they SHOULD be promoted, but not politically in a partisan self righteous way. In terms of the aforementioned shredded fabric of family values, yes we WERE overall good people - before things began coming apart at an ever accelerating pace the last 60 or so years. Now the concept of morality is less taken for granted, regardless of political affiliation, and rather than a concept we take for granted has become a yearned for concept, rightly percieved to have become weakened to the point that political entities consider its advocacy as a weapon in their political arsenal, which is sadly detrimental to this countries very big problem of being split into warring partisan factions, which is NOT what the founding fathers intended and which, seriously, could bring this great country to its knees.

I think we all have to admit that Ms. Palin has a very radical belief system.

That would disqualify her in my book, even with out the lack of experience.

Tonite we will find out how well she can give a (prepared) speech. Sometime after that, we will find out her ability to speak extemp & answer questions off the cuff.

Ms. Palin has a very radical belief system.

- for example, her Christian beliefs are -- um - shall we say "unusually strong"
- her association with, and possibly Membership in, the fringe Alaskan Independence Party calls into question her dedication to the US as a nation

I'm sure she will explain all this -- and her support for windfall profits taxes on oil co.s, for special funding setasides for Wasilla and for the Bridge to nowhere, and other handouts when she gives her speech.

But at least we know what she believes in!

What does Barack believe in? He, like all of the other politicians is able to hide, camouflage, or nuance all of his beliefs.

When he was pinned down on the "when does life begin question, he deflected it to "above my pay grade". So what does he believe in? I don't know. Palin, if offered that question, would answer from her beliefs. That would stake her position and I would know exactly where she stands.

Thankfully, At least we know what she believes in.
