Winter/non-winter cars

How many of you have a car that you use in the winter and then put it to the side and use your nice car during the spring, summer, and fall seasons?

(Those of you that live in Southern California, the desert SW, Texas, and Florida, please refrain from telling me how beautiful the weather is year-round. Thanks!)

What cars do you switch between?

Do you insure one for a few months and then insure the other car the rest of the year? Does the insurance company have any issues with that?

Thanks.

I drive mine mostly year round. Limited in July - August due to the extreme heat. In the winter I refrain from driving the 911 teh two weeks when its really cold (like 50)

At the end of the day - I insure all year

Year round here. Like David I try to avoid driving it in the serious heat and humidity although I drove it 90% of the time this summer. Winter it is almost every day.

We're not quite as cool as the Euros...we don't take our 996TTs and Gallardos to the Alps during a storm.

Although I did see a 993TT going to Lake Tahoe through 2" of snow - that was cool.

Funny, I just picked up a "new to me" truck for the winter! Should be fun, no more getting stuck now!

I wait for two rains in the spring (the Porsche comes out after that) and drive until the first salt hits the road (Porsche will not be driven in/on that).
Once the salt hits I drive an Intrepid, nice and heavy with great heat and has never stranded me yet (knock on wood).

My wife drives her minivan year round. I try to drive my 944 in spring, summer, and fall. I usually put it away right before the first snow. I take the insurance off at this time. Come spring I also wait the 2 heavy rains before bringing it back out. On rainy days and during winter I drive my crappy Saturn. Gosh I hate my Saturn.

I drive the really fun cars on nice days, when it isn't too hot.
I have a couple fun cars with good A/C, for nice hot days.
I have a car for rainy days when I want to relax.
I have a car for rainy days when I want to have a little fun.
I have a winter beater.
Up until this year, I had a dedicated snow car (early 4wd Audi) fitted with snow tires, for snow days (we average a week to ten days a year.)
I have a 4wd truck, when things get really nasty and I feel like running over something.

All are insured, all year.

I am probably not the best guy to answer this question.

I use the Porsche for the spring, summer, and fall as long as there is no salt on the roads. I use the BMW 540 for times I need to take more then one child or want a more comfortable ride. I take the Sequoia in the snow, rain, or generally don't care where I park the car. Erie insurance gives you a nice price break if you park the car for 3 months (usually Dec to March). Call me crazy, but I like giving the 911 a break and taking it out for a spring run every year.

I have a '98 Toyota 4-Runner Limited I use year around. The Porsche (930) I use on evenings and weekends and only insure it for a few months a year.

I use a 1999 Nissan Maxima as my year round urban assault vehicle. It takes me into the downtown parking lot trenches and can withstand door dings (no it can't, but I really don't care) and winter abuse. It's cheap to run and maintain. The 911 is insured year round (parking insurance only in the winter months - from November to April) but sleeps in the garage when it's nasty and cold out there. Family duties are done in the 2007 Honda Odyssey.

My AMG is my only car, so it's driven daily. My BMWs and Porsches of the past were the same way. I would have trouble driving a beater when there's a funner option. Park way out in the parking lots, rinse the salt off after driving in the winter, there's no worries.

Anyone who hasn't driven their 911 in the snow is missing out. It defines steering with the throttle. Great traction and silly fun.

The 944 goes away for the winter, mostly because I hate clearing snow off of cars and I only have a double garage.

I recently bought a Saabaru and I cant wait to try it out in the winter.
