Why spend so much??

johnco 09-06-2008 12:53 AM

had a bottle left over from long ago. radiatation and chemo kinda messed up my throat and it's like drinking draino. can't seem to get enough down to get a buzz. haven't been drunk in quite a while

martj 09-06-2008 01:26 AM

The same CR

onewhippedpuppy 09-06-2008 04:25 AM

Beer. After too many years of drinking it out of the bottle, I can't take the liquor any more. Miller Lite in the fridge right now, I'm fat enough as is. I just pretend it's Boulevard Wheat or Dos Equis Amber.

excellent choices

i used to live a mile away from the Bernardus brewery
used to be called st Sixtus, after the Westvleteren st Sixtus abbey just 8 miles away

also good beer for stewing rabbit, but you'de want the #8 for that

st Bernardus is actually the commercial spin off, of the st Sixtus abbey (Westvleteren)
after the war , the monks did not want to commercialize more then they had already
and they made some kind of license deal, where a private owner would brew beer for commercial sales, under supervision

whereas the West Vleteren beer, brewed in the abbey, would be for own use and sales at the gate only...
The Westvleteren abt 12, in last years was sort of the holy grail of beer so to speak , highly rated, but terribly difficult to get a hold off, because it's not sold outside the abbey... you can call a hotline, and they tell you when you can go to the abbey to buy a crate, and just one crate...

futuresoptions 09-06-2008 07:12 AM

Evan Williams... Crown Royal Select reserve.....Svedka....... and if I am in a mezcal kind of mood, I prefer the dirtiest, unfiltered crap I can find...........

Supposed to be filtered to the point that it won't give a hangover. BS, I got over that stuff a long time ago after trying it out a few times. If I'm gonna shoot vodka, I'll buy Popov. Screw it.

But, the hard stuff doesn't sit well with me anymore. I quit for about 5 years and started having a little red wine before dinner. Not the same anymore like johnco says, and I haven't even been thru the ringer as he has.

Hope you're doing OK, john.

svandamme 09-06-2008 08:09 AM

bs indeed, any vodka that's produced industrially should be filtered well enough for it to be just clear booze, and have hardly anything in it other then water and alcohol
it's not like vodka has much "flavor", hell, the word means "water"

anybody who get's hungover from vodka , simply drank to much of it to begin with
or simply can't process alcohol... either way, it's would be in the bottom of the list of hangover prone drinks if there ever was such a list

johnco 09-06-2008 09:27 AM

when we had our wine shop, I must have tried just about every Vodka available. there's this great tasting black vodka called "Blavad" that really was worth the premium price. damn, now I'll have to see if I can find any in local stores

3.2 CAB 09-06-2008 10:01 AM

Crown!!

Here is a home experiment for the Vodka drinkers. Buy some of the cheapest, rot-gut vodka that you can find and run it through one of the Brita Water Filter pitchers. Be sure to keep a little shot of the "non-filtered" so you can do a taste test after the filter job. You will be very surprised at the difference in the "new taste" as opposed to the straight from the bottle, before the Brita Filter.

widgeon13 09-06-2008 12:10 PM

Old Rarity "on the rocks"

johnco 09-06-2008 12:26 PM

and here's an experiment for all the wine drinkers. run your worst bottle of wine thru a water distiller and watch it change from 6-8% alcohol to 140-150% or so. of course you lose most of the volume but that's just the water and flavoring. who needs that when you're drinking moonshine
