Toyota Tacoma Shocks?
I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma DoubleCab with about 85k miles on it that is in need of some new shocks. It has the factory Tokico (IIRC) shocks on it now and it has gotten progressively "floaty" at highway speeds. I also tow the 911 with it on occasion, so some extra stability would be nice.
I'd like to replace the shocks and am leaning towards some Bilsteins, but wondered if anyone else has any recommendations or experiences? TIA...

Tough to go wrong with Bilsteins. I've run them on everything from my 911 to my Willys Wagon with no complaints.

I have an 01 double cab 4x4 with the Tokicos shocks on it as well. Mine seem to be holding up well. I pull a 3500 lb. trailer with it too. I have a friend with an 03 extra cab and his has the Bilsteins on it. He says he hates them. He says it is extremely "floaty" at freeway speeds. I have always used Bilsteins on my other vehicles and never had a problem with them. When my shocks wear out I think I will go the Tokico route again. They haven't done me wrong yet.

my g/friend has a 2007 tacoma 4x4 and she lives in the sticks. many miles washboard road every day to and from. beats the hell out of the truck. bilsteins werk el perfecto. my "divorce forces sale-i love it" 1999 gmc k-1500 z71 gets pounded into submission daily. trailers/bikes/quads/elk scouting/also live on crap wash board dirt road...................bilsteins.
funny you bring this up..........my younger son and i have a outstanding order with my buddy at raceshock.com-lee finke for bilsteins for my truck and kids toyota 2 x2. i got 97,000 miles on my bilsteins and fluid has just cooked from just being a shock. vizualize oil in a blender for umpteen years and thats what happens to shock oil. perfectly nermal and nothing lasts forever. $240 for mine on my k-1500. $220 for kids yotta. every vehicle i own has bilsteins. my class 8 chevy has remote resevoir rebuildables on it......like 10 of them. when shocks arrive i go to lee with class 8 truck and he checks my nitrogen gas levels and adds as needed. life is good. now just picture a class 8 truck getting 5 feet OF AIR GOING THRU THE WHOOPS DOWN MY ROAD at about 75MPH and you will understand why i have bilsteins and not some POS rancho goofy shocks. plus i have raced with lee and he supplies all of geiser brothers G-1 trophy trucks and now all of geiser bros G-2 new high techno trophy trucks with bilsteins if customer wants them. king would be the other option for total insane TT action. might as well give lee finke my bizzness than some other schmuck mail order house. plus i get unlimited STEEEEEEKERS! |

The TRD Tacomas have Bilsteins from the factory. A former roommate of mine had one, I never felt that the ride was floaty. If it were me, I'd go that route.
