If you're sending them gold that 'fell off the back of a truck' do you care?

Good question. I would think not in most cases as police reports identify lost property. Pawn shops regularly have to justify their inventory. Is this place much different? Since they use the US mail, I bet they walk the line.

Right, I think the gold places are legit, just screw you on price.
The ones that I think are outright scams are the ones that promise you can make millions selling goods on eBay that you never see. I think those are just using your user ID to sell stolen goods...

Here in NY/NJ, you have to fill out and sign a form from the PD when you sell jewelry at a store. The trade in is probably less than 50 cents on a dollar for gold.

There was a discussion here on this a few weeks ago. Several folks thought the commercials should be banned because they might dupe elderly people into hawking jewelry.

Umm... isn't that the point?
They don't need jewelry anyways. Just a TV.

They sure make it hard to figure out how much the pay per once. They pay you by pennyweight or something like that. I guess you could go to google and figure out the conversion, but it seems as if grams would work bette/be more transparent.

Reverse mortgages can be a good deal depending on one's situation. Selling gold for half of what it's really worth is never a good deal.

fwiw,m my next shippment will go to Garfield. At today's spot price of $781 oz they are paying $19.79/dwt for 14kt gold or about $12.60/gram. This rate is for less than 5 oz. Their highest rate of $21.55 would be for over 25 oz.
A typical man's 14kt 8 mm band would yield about $100, a woman's 3 mm about $25. I would hope the tv guys are paying something close to this. Walk into my shop and get $15/dwt. Jim

What kind of idiot would put gold jewelry into a conspicuous envelope loudly screaming "GOLD" on it, then hand it over to a bunch of poorly-compensated government employees. Or worse, toss it in the common "outgoing mail" box?

Do you suppose they would take my dead CRT monitors? They might have some gold in them.
