IQ - do you agree with this listing...

I've never put much stock in IQ, maybe except for reasoning purposes or ability to quickly figure out issues. Still, I found this interesting, particularly where this states top civil servants are geniuses...:

140 and over Genius or near genius
120-140 Very superior intelligence
110-120 Superior intelligence
90-110 Normal or average intelligence
80-90 Dullness
70-80 Borderline deficiency

Below 70 Definite feeble-mindedness

140 Top Civil Servants; Professors and Research Scientists.
130 Physicians and Surgeons; Lawyers; Engineers (Civil and Mechanical)
120 School Teachers; Pharmacists; Accountants; Nurses; Stenographers; Managers.
110 Foremen; Clerks; Telephone Operators; Salesmen; Policemen; Electricians.
100+ Machine Operators; Shopkeepers; Butchers; Welders; Sheet Metal Workers.
100- Warehousemen; Carpenters; Cooks and Bakers; Small Farmers; Truck and Van Drivers.
90 Laborers; Gardeners; Upholsterers; Farmhands; Miners; Factory Packers and Sorters.

Yeah so which civil servant wrote that up?

Judging someone by their intelligence quotient alone is stupid.

It is like looking at the detached hood of a '93 chevy caprice and deciding that the rest of the car must have been gorgeous, when in fact we all know that they were utterly hideous.

There are so many other facets to a person's mind and personality that the IQ number is rendered barely relevant.

N!

Madonna & Reggie Jackson, 160+

JFK & John Gotti, 110

If you have 100' of rope, and there are some rotten spots in there, you might not have much rope at all.

There's a lot more to intelligence than IQ. I've had a number of very high IQ (assuming) professors that would be lucky to successfully change their own oil. Most people that I believe are smart have a good balance of both IQ and common sense. Considering what I've been tested at, I think the test is FOS anyway.:D

My son's IQ tested at 149. He's scary smart.

I'm an uneducated-owner of a failing business-who has few real world job skills-despises public speaking-overeater-underachiever-unimaginative-loner-who has a disproportionate IQ. :P

I think that the term "iq" really should be called "ability to learn"...

I believe the same. Einstein, IIRC, is a good example of where IQ - or ability to learn - may not be applicable to true intelligence. I believe Einstein wasn't a very good student.

I'll take determination, ambition and morality over IQ anyday.

stevepaa 09-12-2008 10:30 AM

I test well on IQ tests.

But I feel like it has hurt, not helped my career. Being intelligent is great, but if you do not have emotional intelligence to deal with other people, it is of limited use.

I live in affluent area, and I can tell you with authority that determination, ambition and guts make a lot more people rich than brains do.

livi 09-12-2008 10:37 AM

Great. I have 'very superior intelligence'. Thats good to know, seeing as I pass most of the days feeling stupid.

Isn't Bush's IQ reported to be around 125 and JFK's around 100?

Puhlease! Bush has to study for a urine test.

cantdrv55 09-12-2008 10:46 AM

Didn't Bush toke? Of course he had to study for a urine test!

Obama stayed blasted and baked his entire sophomore year - according to one of his multiple autobiographies.

I guess the media can't read (no surprise) or they would be running front page stories on this revelation, trying to track down the dealers he bought from and trotting out the rehab and psychologist experts to explain how he's not fit to be a community organizer or any other important post in the government. And half of Jay Leno's and Letterman's monologes would include jokes about said drug use.

Zef 09-12-2008 11:30 AM

As I can see in all the threads...Obama is a stupid guy....WTF a guy like this can reach the point to be almost president...?
