Do you strap a seatbelt during a Taxi ride?

Cuurently in Toronto - I'm getting a kick out of typing this and holding on to dear life cruising at about 75mph in a taxi. Taxi drivers know what they're doing right?

In Toronto? Yeah, right........

But yes, I always use a seat belt even if I am not required to by law. It's there, why not use it.

How are you liking Toronto so far? How long are you there for? Where in Toronto?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: About 5 years ago, I was on my way to the airport (in Toronto) with light traffic on the highway & the cab driver started veering uncomfortably close to a large transport truck. I realized we were almost in trouble & yelled at him. The car mirror hit one of spinning truck's rear wheels before the cabbie went in the other direction. All at 70 mph. Cab # 689

Last time I had to take a taxi I was so goddamn drunk I was lucky my pants were still strapped up, much less the seatbelt.

I take a taxi to and from work to the train station in Chicago almost everyday. Yes, I wear a seatbelt.

Remember Princess Di? Physics is physics. Seatbelts are your friend...

We've all got to go sometime, but I've known too many people who died sadly, stupidly, in some foolish, banal incident.

If you go to the Great Beyond in a fireball at 150mph, your grandkids will still feel the wild, romantic glow of that for decades, much as I feel it from two great uncles I never knew who died - one on a sailboat off Long Island, another in a crevasse in the Alps.

Dying in a taxi? That's just not a romantic or cool way to go....

Put on the seatbelt and trust in the knowledge that a better and more beautiful, and a more romantic and poignant death awaits you.

Always!

One of the scariest rides I've ever had was in a taxi. He couldn't stay in his lane and almost hit the concrete wall a few times. It was about 5am, so I asked the guy if he'd been working all night? He said no. Either he was drunk or the worst driver I've ever seen.

I'm just here until tomorrow for work. I'm in the GTA north west of Toronto propper. The scary part of the voyage here was on 403 this morning. I normally don't use seat belts in taxi's, I'm not sure why I don't - maybe it was that one time, I got bubble gum stuck on my jacket from a seat belt before going to a meeting. Seriously though, that was no joke, the whole car was shaking. The driver didn't have his belt on either. Anyway, point taken, belt is going on for now on.

Toronto is great, its a nice break from Philly. I've noticed even before, is it me or do the girls like to show their stuff here,...

Scariest ride I ever had was Manhattan to LGA - I was working and my wife called from Chicago to tell me she was miscarrying. I left and told the cab guy to hurry up so I could standby on an earlier flight. We were doing over 100mph in the center lane - as I recall a Jetta on the left side and a van on the right (yes, the memory is that clear 15 years on) when we suddenly saw a Lazy-Boy chair in the middle lane right in front of us. I thought I was going to die. Don't know how we missed it.....

Why would you not?

What's the thinking for always buckling up when you are a passenger in a "regular" car, but not buckling up in a taxi cab?!? Do taxis have some kind of superpower or something that makes them immune to accidents?

Hell yes i wear a seatbelt. When I get onto an aeroplane, I have a reasonbale expectation that the tech crew know what they are doing. I have no such expectation in a taxi.

I've never worn a seat belt in the backseat. To support my logic, I never sit in the middle.

Always. Not using seatbelt is arguably one the most stupid things on the chart IMO.
