The new "I'm a PC" ads are almost as bad. Microsoft is feeling the heat from Apple. |

Wow. When you capture the hearts of the young all bets are off...all his buds run Macs. |
Not so sure Seinfield is history. My daughter and many, if not all her friends, are in tune with his show. When she was 17 a couple of years ago, she got me the first 5 (7?) year episodes of Seinfield shows on DVD. Smart daughter. Not too shabby for a show canceled 10 years ago ('98).

Seinfeld is hilarious, I am 21, target demog, I love that show now (not when it was on originally)
Yeah, the commercials sucked. Apple really has the whole idea of "clean and simple" down to a T. Beautiful design philosophy. Less beautiful when you try to run certain applications on it. So I have both a PC and a Mac. MSFT needs to do something totally fresh, totally new. "You can't solve problems with the same minds that created them."(Einstein) They need to do something just amazing with touch-screen technology and OLED lights, make a flat , powerful, SIMPLE touch screen that just does everything and beats the crap out of apple at their own game..they have the money for R&D but seem to be too concerned with making $$ on software...yes , businesses still run a ton of PCs and MSFT stuff...but the open source revolution has commenced, MSFT must do something new |

What *is* funny is that the Seinfeld ads are orders of magnitude better than the new campaign with the "real people" commenting on how great Vista is. Wow. Epic bad/fail/fubar.
I don't think Chiatt/Day would come up with crap like this... |
In the past 2 years I have went from working for a Microsoft gold partner company (after years of evangelizing their products) to a strong detractor.
Not everything MS does is bad, but they are way off course with their operating systems (the core of their business). When everyone else is going lighter, faster, simpler, they doggedly are sticking to their heavier, slower, more complex model. We don't need 15 versions of every f-in product! Just make a 'standard' and an 'enterprise' edition and call it a day. And Sharepoint.......*shudder*....satan himself is behind it somehow....I just know it. Anyone who had to role out Sharepoint 1.0 should receive a congresional medal of honor and a lifetime supply of valium. |
Maybe JS was really a prick in real life?
Anyway loved the series, maybe now they will get Kramer :D More reading -> at waste your time |
Bill Gates comes off as stiff and not really that funny... and Jerry usually plays the sarcastic straight set up man, so they need a bit more spark from the opposite being funny, which Gates really isnt. the ads are close, but Bill doesnt quite make it work...
I think Seinfeld lives on in TV reruns and people under 21 do know who he is... Jerry has sort of been out of the limelight for the past 10 years, but he could still come back with the right vehicle easily. |

They worked, we are talking about them aren't we? Man, I would love to have a 906, favorite P car you could drive on the street |

We'll see how they (try to) recover from this abortion. |

My fav VW ad was done by Arnold Worldwide - maybe MS should have hired them <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9-aUBso-XuA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9-aUBso-XuA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |
Yeah, that's a great spot. "Mr. Blue Sky" is a major league toe-tapper.
I don't think CP+B fully appreciates the gravity of the situation Microsoft is in. Apple just keeps eating away at market share year after year, and MS is losing an entire generation of users to Apple's slick OS and product design. It's very similar to the way Detroit is losing an entire generation of buyers to Japanese imports. Crispin can't just throw some juvenile hidden camera crap at the audience and expect it to stick the way the Subservient Chicken thing did for Burger King. The target market is not just the video game crowd, which is what they're used to appealing to. It is a much, much broader audience. The whole world is watching to see if the mighty MS will fall, and this Seinfeld/Gates tragedy certainly doesn't bode well for the rest of the campaign. They've now got an even BIGGER hole to dig out of. The bed-head skateboard punks at Crispin will now have to actually be intelligent and clever instead of just being wiseasses. This should be good. I'm getting the popcorn ready... |
Yeah those ads did kind of blow but Apple's ads blow just as hard.
