Gates and Seinfeld ads: Epic Fail
These guys don't get it, do they? Sorry....guys....but your day has passed.
All respect in the world to both, but I'm not so sure kids under 21 even know who Seinfeld is these days. So NOT hip ads. Come on Redmond, get your head out yer ar5e. I being an old crust at this point, I don't know whats hip anymore, but I'm old enough to know that it ain't Bill and Jerry. |
Microsoft is taking it in stride. Any buzz is good buzz.
|
Well, I liked them. I thought they were fun. So I'm not the target demographic, I don't care.
|
at first i was expecting that the commercials were in stages. a story leading up to some great punchline. then i realized that the just sucked.
and will the guys who wanted seinfeld for the american top gear now admit it would have been a horrible mistake? |
I don't like any of the new Microsoft commercials.
However, IMO Seinfeld and Gates isn't nearly as offensive as the commercial showing a test group looking at an OS called "Windows Mojave," becoming enthralled by it, then being told it's really Windows Vista. If the commercial suggests Microsoft has to fool people into liking Vista, while also baiting people with a teaser that Microsoft has a new OS, it makes me less likely to buy their product from the outset. |
The ads were not funny in the least. I was hoping for a punch line at the end too.
I'm not too far from the <21 group and I know who he is.. |
Saw one but don't remember what they were advertising, guess I have a poor retention span! or just don't care.:p
|
It really sucked. I don't know which one is more unlikeable. Made me embarassed to use Windows.;)
|
Jerry got $10Million from Bill, so more $$$ toawrds Porsche purchases and maintenance costs.
Win-win in my books. Yasin |
You have to admit that the line 'and I have so many cars I cause my own traffic jam' was pretty funny. Only the P-car crowd got that joke.
|
The very first time I saw one of those commercials all I could thing of was, they missed.
Fail is the best description. |

I am also pretty tired of the two guys in the Apple commercials. |

Actually, Seinfeld is still big with 'my' generation. Almost a cult following.
|
Epic fail? We'll see.
The whole point & there was only was ONE point: to humanize Bill & therefore to attach a FRIENDLY HUMAN face to Microsoft - not just some remote trillionaire. And Bill - to his credit - agreed to be humanized. Seinfeld is just familiar fluff to capture the target market. The Apples ads - I despise negative ads btw, but they often work - have the cool friendly generic happening Apple user guy versus the MS nerd. To the mindless unwashed the conclusion is: Apple = cool MS = boring MS have a celebrity user series coming next. It's fun to watch the sparing. Ian |
Don't Bill and Jerry both own 959's? I think they need Wayne in their commercials.
|
I've seen the shoe store - shower in your cloths commercial. It's horrible.
They are both so rich that they could give a rats hiney what we think. |
MSFT should hire the agency that handles GEICO.
Come on, that lizard, the cavemen, and the Mrs. Butterworth's bottle. That's gold baby! I'm serious. The GEICO ad guys are brilliant. Seinfeld is a straight man. Putting a straight man in a scene with Bill Gates is a monumentally stupid idea. And I'm not sure who the target demographic was supposed to be....but I suppose if you're selling old and outdated technology, who better to rep the product??? |
They pulled the ads last week before the company meeting and rolled out the new "I'm a PC" ads, so you don't have to watch them anymore.
Bills has a 959 and it's rarely seen outside of Medina. He had a 996 Cab that he drove as his daily driver awhile back. |
The new "I'm a PC" ads were made on Macs running Adobe Creative Suite 3.
http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20080919/hi-im-a-pc-and-i-was-made-on-a-mac/ This is the kind of irony that rips holes in space. Did someone say "Fail" ? |
