2+ years Of My Life..My 400+hp Datsun Z Build. Lotsa Pics
Well here it is guys....been working away almost every free moment on it for the past few months eager for completion. I have driven the car about 10miles and its incredible and sounds VERY angry with the cam and added compression (the car not me). The boost is set low (4-5psi) right now for the initial break in, but based on how it feels I am confident that this car is quicker than my 2900lb - 911 Turbo that is sitting about 425hp.
About the car: I rescued it from a banker in Denver 8years ago, it was rusty and rough but stock and "all there" right down to the stock Hitachi cassette deck, everything works on the car. It has improved every year I have had it. There is still lots of little things to do and bugs to work out, but its fairly presentable, so thought I would share. A quick run down on the Engine: 3.0L Displacement 240Z rods JE Pistons 8.1: 1 compression Diamond Like Coating (DLC) on the wrist pins Swain coated piston domes and exhaust & combustion chambers Whitehead Performance Ported and Polished P90 (non-hydraulic) HKS 2mm Head Gasket Web Turbo Grind Cam ARP studded bottom end ARP Head Studs ARP flywheel bolts Custom Aluminum Radiator Arizona Z-Car Turbo Oil Pump Corky Bell Fabricated Intercooler (custom made) 2.5" Intercooler Piping Perma-cool Oil Cooler (-10 lines) Flex-A-Lite twin Electric Fans thermostatically controlled Clutch Specialties Clutch (custom made) Fidanza 240mm Flywheel Brand new genuine Nissan Borg Warner T5 Custom made Intake Manifold South Florida Performance Exhaust Manifold Garrett T3 / T4 Turbo TiAL Blow Off Valve and 38mm Wastegate 67mm BMW 735i Throttle Body 3" Mandrel Exhaust Lots of Autometer Gauges. Hand built coilovers by myself Soon: Willwood 4Piston brake conversion The front spoiler was imported from Japan and a very unique piece that took ALOT of messing to fit it. The car should be capable of 400+whp and will be set to run 18psi on a Haltech E6X Engine Management very soon (after break-in). The pics... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enjoy and regards - Yasin

428hp 280z? umm... it must be scary to drive. My both of my friend had 300+ 240z, one with wide body and wide wheels/tires. They are so scary to drive because they are too light, and doesn't handle that well. I had the first gen. 140z, after restored and a lot of things done, it still flew off the road surface

Wow!
I had a 280Z before, along with the Toyota Supra Turbo. The Z won my 1st choice as it was light and nimble compared to the Supra. Keep us posted. |

Fun stuff.
Brings back great memories from the 80's. Great if we the hood were on to hide the beast within.....

Your '83 was exactly what I had. Unfortunately, I was rear-ended and insurance company totalled it!
May I ask how much it sold for? |

I sold mine for 5k a few months ago....Based on what I see with Yasins car,,and with the old school Z's steadily rising in value as of lately,Id say Yasins car would easily bring 8-10k if it is solid...

The 240Z was supposed to be the 'best' of the Z. The later ones, 260, 280, 280zx, etc. got porkier. I would go back to the Z's if it were not for the fact that the market was lacking 'parts joint' ---- there is no "performance products" or Pelican stores that I am aware of. Heck, as soon as I started to end up going to 'junk yards' for parts, I just said, "That's it!" |

What's the opinion on the "remanufactured" Z-cars from about 10 years ago? If I recall, Nissan took these cars and rebuilt them for $25k-

I remember reading that they were essentially "as new" when complete. No idea what they're selling for today, but that was a cool move by Nissan.

This is an '83 with the 180hp / 200ft.lbs of torque motor +1 Mitsumark - Sorry you had to sell your car, you gave it away, someone got a killer car at a great deal!! That car is stunning. I love the color, the appearance and love your tasteful mods. Sad to see it go. I saved your car's pics on my hardrive. I would not come close to selling my car even if someone offered me $15K for it. Many thanks for all the compliments and feedback guys! I appreciate it. Regards - Yasin
