x2, I was almost afraid to click on this thread.
I find it hard to believe that Nissan is voiding the cars for this. There must be more to the story.

One time a homeless man crapped in my friend's car. But he wasn't a tranny, and the car was only an old Subaru GL.

Actually, there's a lot of very interesting opinions shared in that NAGTROC thread.
A few things from the thread that amaze me:
-The idea that using a standard feature of the car would void the warranty (!!!)
-Nissan won't stand behind the car they've been hyping up for so long.
-One poster's Ferrari F430 was cheaper to maintain than the Nissan

I'm sure the people back at Porsche had a good laugh when they heard about all this.

Sorry kids, but there's several other cars that do the exact same thing. I believe it was a BMW that would void the warranty if there was a computer record of using launch control more than a few times. I think the limit was 20.

Not to mention, it's on an American fanboy blog. Newsflash, blog does not always equal truth. Read the comments, as they brag up their American "sports cars". Wait until it pops up on Edmunds or Autoblog, they have some credibility.

nissan is a Japanese version of ford. I won't own either one.

Why do people purchase inferior brands?
I'd think that everyone knows that Nissan doesn't build cars that can equal Toyota. I'd think that everyone knows ford and Chrysler's cars aren't very good when compared to their competition. yet they still buy them. Are people really that dumb?

Toyota cars are seriously boring. I'd take a Sentra over a Corolla, an Altima over a Camry, and a Maxima over an Avalon. I'd also happily drive a 350Z, which Toyota doesn't have an answer for. What's wrong with any of those cars? Toyota makes excellent cars, but they have the appeal of a Buick.

Calling Nissan the Japanese version of Ford isn't the most intelligent comment ever.

Guess it puts that whole Nurburgring number in perspective. Maybe instead of Porsche asking "What sort of tires were you running to set that record?" they should have asked "Yeah, but how many laps can it do before it breaks down?"

Nissan is screwing the pooch on this one. "Oh, here's a button, but DON'T push it. DON'T PUSH THE BIG RED BUTTON!"

The GTR has an overcomplicated drivetrain.

It is a rear-transaxle all-wheel drive car. One driveshaft takes power from the engine to the rear transaxle, another driveshaft takes power from the rear transaxle to the front differential.

I was in a tarmac rally last weekend. There were two new rally prepped GTRs competing. Both cars finished the event, ran very quickly and did well, especially considering they were on road rubber, 20in R rubber apparently not being yet available.

As these cars are evolved for rally, they will be quite a weapon. The two entered here were road cars, no trannie failures recorded.

The expected outright winner retired his 997 GT2 with a turbo failure.

I hadnt seen one in the flesh, I snapped this camera shot at scrutineering. They look the business.

Uhhh, what? Am I really that drunk or are you just rambling?

It really is a shame that nissan is voiding the warranty over this issue. The car is clearly under engineered. I have heard rumors of a weak tranny even before the car made it to US shores...

My cat once took a dump in the backseat of my Mother-in-law's Buick (cat got left in the garage overnight, rear window happened to be open a crack...). But I would be a lot more PO'd about a $20K gearbox disintegrating in my new supposedly super-reliable Japanese supercar than I would be finding cat poop--as stinky as it is--in the back of my in-law's car. That the Nissan costs half the amount of the 911 Turbo is a lot less impressive if you're on the hook for $20K transmissions every 6 months.

looking at that picture of the drivetrain, wow. a driveline to the transaxle, then another one all the way from the transaxle back to the front of the car. so, basically, the rear transaxle has to deal with all of the torque created at TWO drivelines.
