She is okay I take it?

I've seen the results of a low car taking out the legs of a deer and the torso hitting the windshield.

The car is done. I'm sorry about that. Maybe it wasn't worth your money for collision insurance, but that is the risk you took. Time for a new car!

I don't know what the state law is in northern mexico, or if you carry it, but comprehensive coverage will take care of that here.

How much venison did the kill yield?

I hope the wife is ok.

Yep, but most insurers require collision before they offer comprehensive.

She is OK, I was in the passenger seat, we were only going 25MPH,
I am fixing the car, I am the 3rd owner of a really nice 500SEC
I just did a complete top end rebuild $4,000.00
I love this car, its repairable, no comprehensive either.
Just bite the bullet and pay to get it fixed.

Hey, if you love the car, no other car will replace it. Keep us updated on the progress.

I see you live in "Coto de Caza, CA" which in Spanish means "Hunting Grounds". We sometimes are good at naming places...

Sorry about the car. Looks like no mechanicals are damaged.

That's news to me. My understanding was that only the lien holder could require certain levels of insurance and areas of coverage. I have a choice to deny collision coverage if I think the car is expendable, and there is no note.

That doesn't look too bad. Do you have elks there? We have....they are quite heavy heavy and if you are unlucky and hit one with wrong part of the car it can kill you.
SAAB reinforced roof pillars just to withstand this kind of accident.

The second picture is what happens when you swerve. Don't do it, even after you nail it.

Let me rephrase. Your insurer won't let you purchase comprehensive without collision.

I've come close to hitting a bear, several deers, and a moose (those are big) or two. I am very happy to hear that you two are okay.

That sucks, but provided you shop wisely and do some of the work yourself you can fix that for less than one years worth of collision insurance premiums.

I only carry collision on one of my eight cars. Knock on wood, neither my daughters, wife or I have damaged any of our cars. Even if we ever total a car (all my cars were purchased used), we will be money ahead compared to if I had paid for collision coverage on all our cars for the past several years.

Minkoff, glad to hear you and the wife are ok.

Shortly after I got my first 911, I had an early morning tee time at a remote golf course. There is a fantastic twisting road that follows a river in the area, and I was 20 minutes early, so I headed out for a rip. I came around a sharp bend in 2nd gear with the tail a bit loose to find a doe standing right in the middle of the road. I managed to get it straight and dive inside and miss her. Scared the snot out of me.

Deer are a real problem where I live -- there are so many of them. It is only a matter of time before someone in my family hits one. In fact, I was driving in the valley late this afternoon in the 911 with my wife & saw 6 in a 1/2 mile stretch, none more than 6 feet off the road.

Last December my wife, son & I were driving around 7:00 in the evening about 2 blocks from my house in my wife's Passat wagon. Suddenly my wife started screaming "Deer! Deer!". I looked to my right & saw 5 deer running toward the road right in front of me. I really thought I was going to hit one that time. There was nobody coming the other direction on the 2-lane road, so I hit the brakes hard & moved to the left (opposing) lane to give me more time/room. Somehow I came to a complete stop & didn't hit any of them!

Then, suddenly there was a loud "thunk". One of the deer ran right into the side of our car! I thought there would be damage, but there wasn't. My son was on the right side of the back seat & the deer ran into his door -- he was eye-to-eye with the deer! He said it fell down, got up & ran off. I think the deer's head hit the side window. Glad he wasn't hurt badly, but I am sure he had a headache!

Then, as I started to go, one of them ran right in front of me! It is only a matter of time....

Another quick deer story...The grand-daughter of a woman I work with had a scare a year or so ago. She was driving & a car going the other way on the road she was on hit a deer. It knocked the deer into the air & through her grand-daughter's windshield! Thankfully she wasn't hurt -- I'm sure that scared her quite a bit!

Glad you & your wife are okay.

Here is a link to research paper done by Swedish road department on topic "collision with a moose". It's in swedish but there are interesting pictures which you might find interesting.
