Large format printers

Anyone in the biz?

I need to set up a 36" black and white large format printer to reproduce architectural drawings that are usually in .pdf format.

The drawings available to subcontractors these days are now emailed or downloaded off ftp sites.

Lowest quality is probably fine with the lowest operating and initial cost.
Speed is not that important but can't be painfully slow.

Most of the drawings will be printed and discarded quite soon thereafter.

I'm an architect and recently threw down for a Xerox 6204. It's not cheap - I'm leasing. I've been through a few plotters, but I wanted to be able to run multiple sets of plans. . . fast and in-house. I have no regrets. It does 4-5 pages a minute, connects seemlessly to my mac, has nice quality printing etc.... no complaints yet!

I looked at a KIP machine too. This one was sold to me as having better quality for the price than a similar KIP machine. Also, most importantly as I live in the boonies, I can get support and service for it.

We have a Kip 3000 here and love it, also leased. Hooked to the network anyone in the office with the drivers installed can use it as a printer. The main use is for the CAD department to plot from AutoCAD.
