Need some help with PC data transfer to laptop

Hi Guys. I have a bad virus on my older XP home pc. I have regularly saved most of my files and moved them to an external hard drive. I have a new laptop with Vista that I use mostly now.

My question is, how can I remove these recent files from my home XP to my laptop Vista. I think I may have to reformat this time. It is about time anyway but didn't want to lose any saved information.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Randy.

This virus has disabled all of my administration on the home pc. It keeps covering over everything I do with pop ups. I haven't had this sort of problem before in 13 years being online. I am going to try to move manually with an external hard drive. Thanks.
