Ok i just ran that disk on my computer and played with ubuntu a little bit without installing. It is most definitely not my disc that is the problem.

could be the cdrom drive in the computer not reading the disc, hardware compatibility issue, bad hard drive, really are a lot of possibilities. Can you run unbuntu just off the live CD? Does everything work that way?
