Business Names That Bug Me

Any business with the word "Innovations" or "Concepts" in their title...or restaurants/clubs that use their street address (e.g. "Club 109", Salon 1333, etc.).

C'mon...have an original thought, folks.

There is a new club in my town "Three 31", it opened March 31st...

Any business that once made tangible goods in a factory but now offer "solutions".

Along those lines, any car biz (sales, service, etc.) with the name "Euro" in it.

"Initials" names...I can't remember them. Gee, was that J&J cleaners or C&S cleaners...M&R or M&L???

John Walker did well...his biz name explains it, and full names are much easier to remember.

A & E's EuroConcepts 911. We offer solutions.

Ahh...forgot that one. Innovations, Concepts & Solutions, Inc.

I started a company that provided prosthetic & artificial joints for large sea birds, but received a "cease & desist" letter from Pelican Parts lawyers... :)

There's a slew of companies that appear to have created strange "blended" names simply to get a relatively short and original name.

It started before the Net with names like Accura (Accurate + ?) and Lexus (Luxury Nexus?).

Now we have Accenture, Innova and Firedog and many other oddities that look they were made solely to get their own domain name.

If you said "Google" "Boingo" and "Yahoo" to me in the course of regular conversation in the not-so-distant past, I'd be calling the funny farm to take you away.

And how about those annoying liberties they take with spelling? Kwik Wash, Kar Partz. WTF? How hard is it to just spell it correctly, if for no other reason, then to just make it easier to look up in the phone book or online?

kstar 10-17-2008 11:42 AM

Like AAAbacus?

I think they have a reason for that. You can't trademark "Car Parts", but you can "Kar Partz". Nonetheless, survey says: annoying.

Actually, no. That name is like that because Verizon requires a business license as proof of a proper name. A lot of places use to try to put an "A" before their real name, just to get closer to the front of the Yellow Pages. I used to work there, so I ran into this once in a while.

Any business that misspells words deliberately. Some examples:

"Karz for Less"
"Bizness Center"
"Lo-Kost Savings Mart"
"Kidz Place"
"Artz and Krafts Center"

yeesh.

We have a carpet cleaner called "Pet Pee Pee". There are huge bulletin boards all over the place with giant yellow letters and a pic of a dog squatting on a rug "PET PEE PEE"...
