Weirdest thing that ever happened to me...
My wife and I went to look at a Porsche 911 Cabriolet in Saline, MI on Saturday for another Pelican whose is considering buying it. We didn't know the sellers name, but had the address. Once we got to the house, met the owner and took the car out for a test drive and all was "normal". When we came back from the test drive, the seller said "Art, my wife says she knows you, she used to be married to your brother". Sure enough, his wife Mary was my brother Brian's 1st wife and they divorced amicably in 1988 and that was the last time we saw her. We had no knowledge of her whereabouts since then and neither did my brother. Fortunately, the divorce wasn't nasty and Mary, her husband and Beth and I had a nice visit. Later that day, I called my brother, father and mother and told them what happened and they agreed that it was freakish! What do you guys think? Thais kind of thing happens to me quite often and I have a developed a reputation for these kinds of things... Weird!

Life is great Art. This world is a small one.

It's a small world. It's a bit surprising when it happens, but not really that surprising in the grander scheme of things.
My father was in the military. I went to school on the military base in Misawa Japan when I was younger. I've run into people that I knew in Japan in a couple of different states over the years. |
Today I saw a hearse with 20" chrome wheels and neon under-car lighting. That was weird......
|
There was a cemetary near my old job. We used to drive past it most days at lunch, and consequently saw a lot of funeral processions. One in particular used a Purple hearse, and purple limos.

This is a sign that god has a sense of humor.

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.

A buddy of mine was dating a girl and at one point, they discussed their previous college trips to Europe. Turns out they had both been in Europe about the same time (they didn't meet each other until much later). The girl brings out her photo album (remember those?) to show him pics of her trip. In one of the photos of her in a train station was my buddy, standing in the background. Small world, eh?

It’s a sign...there are no chance occurrences - God does not throw dice! (He prefers poker).

One time I was with my girlfriends family (at the Sheraton in Ann Arbor actually......). My girlfriends little sister was whining that she wanted soda, so they asked me to take her to the vending machines and get one. We get down there only to discover that we don't have enough change on us. The kid whines, "I SO wish I had a Coke right now". We stare at the machine for a moment, and a freaking Coke drops right out of the damn thing. We hadn't even touched it. The kid and looked at each other, stunned. It was strange.

Ran into an old friend the other night. He was having a beer with a guy, Tom. After a brief discussion it turns out Tom worked for a guy I did. I asked, "Really when did you work for him?" A little further discussion and we realized Tom was my replacement when I left in 1980. We decided to have a drink on that.

carlin or wright? i cant remember. great story art! |
Bought an onld wooden trunk at a flea market because it had my name on it, and I thought it was cool. I get it home, use it as a coffee table.
My dad comes over for a visit a few months later, notices the trunk. It was my grandfather's trunk from ww2, my dad remembers playing with it when he was a kid. It was accidently sent to the dump 30 years ago after my grandfather died and my grandmother moved. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224515977.jpg |

At an autox several years ago I was talking to an old guy about his 280Z since I had one at the time. He said something about East Texas and I mentioned my family was from East Texas. He looked at me for a second and said, "you're David Martin"
He was a friend of my mom's from high school who had given me a ride on his motorcycle when I was a little boy over 30 years earlier. Small world. |
On the way to Target one day I told a story to my wife about a friend I had in Jr. High. We walk in to the store and down one of the aisles I see this dude--it was him. Hadn't seen him in 20 yrs--looked the same. I went up and told him the story and he thought I had gone whacko.

couple years ago, went to dinner with friends out here, boyfriend of my friend starts introducing people.. Get's to me and says to Randy "and this is Ellens friend" I stop him and say Randy knows me don't you Hippie... he looked stunned,, I said how long since anyone called you hippie ?? He said MSU,, I said that's right I was your suitmate ( two dorm rooms shared a common bathroom). After 25 years that was pretty weird since we were 2500 miles away..

One of many but recent.
Went to Hershey PA last year. Passing the Crayola factory thought about a guy that I worked with that had taken a gig there a year before. Thought I should give Rob a call but he was still a few hours away from my final destination. So we are going to Dutch Wonderland one day and as I pull in I'm thinking, Rob is here. All day kinda scan the crowd cause I just feel he's there. In the afternoon am taking the boy to the bathroom and sure enough, there's Rob. He was at home and the idea of driving a couple of hours to the park just hit him. |
Strangest coincidence I've had was 1972, I was 16, and taking a weekend road trip with a friend from LA to Petaluma CA. It was dark as a sack when we arrived and are trying to find the residence of a friends parents. We were meandering around these 1 acre lot homes in rural Petaluma, it's pitch black with no street lights, we are completely lost, and suddenly we notice this car following us.
In our now paranoid state, (did I mention we smoked a few?) we are no longer looking for our destination, but trying to lose the Zodiac Killer that's on our tail. My friend, Phil, is making lefts and rights, but this car continues to follow our '67 VW. After what seems like an hour, but probably more like 10 minutes, I tell Phil to just pull into a random driveway. He finally grabs a driveway and the car follows us right up to the garage. I figured my life was over or I'm busted or something. Phil slams reverse and we tear out as the guy walks into HIS HOUSE! We led this guy right to his front door. Likely a hundred to one shot. I think we thought it was hilarious... about an hour later, after we finally found our destination. |
