New german car in the stable!!!
This is really my dads but I will drive it some too. A '90 VW corrado with 103,000 on the clock. Here is the sellers description.
When I bought this car, I looked long and hard to find one that hadn't been too molested, I wanted a nice factory example and not one that showed evidence of being driven hard (and into the ground!) The only changes I've made are things that came available from the VW factory. They include swapping in German Euro spec headlights (Including leveler motors and switch), front turn signals, seatbelts (don't have to worry about the power belts breaking anymore!), parcel trays (replaces the ugly knee bar), spoiler control (spoiler now raises at 70 MPH, more practical and saves wear and tear on it), seat heaters, tinted windows (the tinting has been damaged slightly, but nothing glaring, you have to look pretty closely). As far as modifications go, the engine remains untouched. The engine starts and runs every time. It has never not started, or left me on the side of the road due to a breakdown. It has been maintained, including timing, serpentine, V, and supercharger belts. The transmission shifts just fine. Front brakes have new pads and freshly turned rotors, rear brake pads have been on a couple years, but have only a little wear. I replaced the right rear caliper this weekend, and flushed the whole system's fluid. ABS system works perfectly. All the "gadgets" work, except the MPG computer-it usually reads 99.9. Things like the sunroof (known for being prone to break), locks, windows, the spoiler, cruise control, A/C, etc work. Since I've owned the car (I've owned it for close to 7 years) I've done a lot of work, including: *New Clutch *Timing belt, including water pump *Power steering rack replaced (though, this one is starting to drip, however it seems to be slowing considerably since I've added Lucas Power Steering fluid and I really think once it gets a chance to work through the system fully, the leak will stop) *speed sensor *coolant flanges *coolant changed to G12 *Engine block heater More recently, I've: *done the brake work previously mentioned *Replaced both front wheel bearings The interior is in pretty nice shape, the driver's seat has the normal bolster wear that you see on nearly every Corrado. The exterior overall is nice. Until the other day, there were only the normal dings and dents expected of an 18 year old car. That was until some jerk backed into it or something, denting the front fender by the headlight. It isn't major damage, but there is a dent and some paint was chipped off. Check the pic. I would not hesitate to jump in the car and drive it anywhere in the country. In fact, I am willing to drive it to you provided you cover the costs including getting me home. Otherwise, buyer is responsible for any and all shipping measures though I am willing to help. I've really enjoyed this car over the years, and the only reason I've decided to put it up for sale is because I'm working on putting together a down payment for a house and need to pare the herd down a bit. ![]() ![]() ![]() I think it needs a new shift knob. but other than that I think its awesome |

They are pretty cool little cars, I have always liked them but couldn't find a reason to have one.
What are you going to tow with that hitch???

That's one reason he bought it. He wasnt even in the market but stumbled across it and thought it was too good a deal to pass up. He talked to the owner some more tonight and i think the guy is already missing the car.

Me too. Of course, mine ended up with 2.9 pistons, 268 cams, shine racing-installed fresh longblock from a 98 converted to dizzy/obd1, TT exh, shine suspension, shaved flywheel....
Now, as far as this 90 goes, better make sure that g-lader is working properly. It will need a rebuild if it has not yet been done, in order to make max (stock level) boost. VWvortex beckons... The old school Neuspeed Stage 2 setup for the G60 is probably the best bang for the buck.

Yes he does. They did Grassroots Motorsports' 914 2.0 years ago, I remember seeing at their shop. Back in the mid-late 90s, I had a 91 GTI 8v that got the Shine Racing treatment as well. It was the one car I never should have sold.
Mr Shine is a great guy. Unfortunately, nobody in our family drives VWs these days, so we haven't utilized their services in a few years.

No worries. I missed the Riley county tag earlier, did that come from the Manhattan area?

Yup in manhattan. Thats a nice looking town. The weather yesterday kinda sucked for traveling. that whole area looked like it would be neat if you could see more than a 1/2 mile off the highway.

Loved my '90 Corrado...bought in '96 just sold it recently. Had 69,000 when I bought it, 129,000 when I sold it. Only problem in 60K miles was an ECU relay and an A/C high pressure switch. Still had the original G-lader. You can replace the internal rubber belt on those to make them last forever. Mine had the leather interior and a Automotion Stage 2 which made it a bullet!

I had one many moons ago. 1990 G60, had put in a cam, 7 lbs wheel, fuel enrichment kit, sport stainless exhaust, sway bars and strut bar.
Thing handled like it was on rails, great point and shootability. Gave it back to my brother who pretty much let it go to *****.

The Corrado forum on VWVortex:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=8 VWVortex is an incredible resource for watercooled VWs. I was into VWs from about 1996-2002 and still periodically check that site out (still want a mk1 scirocco). Its one of the largest forums (in general, believe it or not) online. Their non-VW oriented 'Car Lounge' is my favorite non-brand specific general automotive website/discussion board. There is also a tech forum specific to the 1.8 8v G60 engine: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=36 Now back in the day, the Watercooled VW news group, Jan's Watercooled VW Archive, JWelty, and the Corrado Club of America sites were also very active, but I don't think any exist anymore. I strongly suggest the R Bentley Corrado Service/Repair manual.
