Simple, slim phone that syncs Exchange, does it exist?

It's time to get a new phone and a new 2 year contract with Verizon. I am stuck with them because they have a contract with my employer. Right now I have a UT Starcom XV6700 which has all kinds of capabilities, few of which are used, and it is a BRICK in my pocket! I do use the calendar feature quite often, however, and I like that it syncs with our exchange server at work.

This time I want a small phone, like my old RAZR or even my ancient Star-Tac. Work won't pay for data plans ($$$), so I'd like Exchange to sync my calendar when I put it on a cradle connected to my desktop. I cradle the phone every day when I get to work anyway to keep it charged. This is what my XV6700 does brilliantly, but like I said a PDA phone is overkill for my purposes.

Are there any options like this for Verizon? Thanks for any ideas.

Maybe overkill, but I really like my Palm Centro. It does exactly what you are looking for.

Edit: In BLACK though, not gold...

Blackberry Pearl. Common, simple, cheap, and easy to sync with Outlook. I plug it into my desktop and click one button and it syncs. Plus it's phone-sized, so it easily fits in my pocket. I refuse to wear a dork holster for my phone.

Dork Holster!

Classic.

I ditched my smart phone, after using them for years. Felt like I was getting tied to it.

I love my Verizon Rozor-y phone. Its the new version. Small enough to easily fit in my pocket.

Matt, I've lost track of the Blackberries. To sync with Exchange, do I still need a BES server, or can I now do a direct sync like with a WM phone?

Thanks

To do a true sync, i.e. real-time syncronization with your office in-box, I believe you need BES. But I'm no expert. I believe you can also install a utility that will sync you with your desktop email. Either way, you need some sort of data plan which our poster wants to avoid.

My BB isn't on our company BES, so to sync with my desktop calendar I simply plug it into my desktop. Simple and easy, no data service required. Small phone that fits into a pocket easily. I think that answers the original question.

Yes, that's the way it has always been.

Thanks for the update. Bummer too, not much out there right now that would buy.

Shop around, some of the local places are advertising a free Pearl with a new cell contract. Even if you pay, it should be pretty cheap. They're not the hip new thing anymore.

I went from the xv6700 to the xv6900 (Verizon HTC Touch)... the xv6900 is Much smaller, much better screen. It doesn't have a desktop cradle, but I really like it. Else, wait for the Blackberry Storm or Pearl Flip.
