I am going to guess that it's greyed out when you view the properties, per your sys admin...

If not, run cmd on the laptop that works, copy the settings.

If the I.P. for the working laptop is (example) 192.168.1.10, then on the work laptop, change it to 192.168.1.11 (or some other number. 192.168.1.142 should not interfere).

Wireless will still need to connect via a password though... You can give it a try.

It allowed me to set the IP! I tried the .142 number that you suggested, and the same subnet mask, but still won't connect. Do I need a DNS server?

As for DNS... Only if you get the laptop to connect to the wireless router.

I have to go for a bit. If I think of something while I'm out, I'll post when I get back.

Still no success on this. One piece of information that might be helpful...last night, I plugged the network cable from the router (that is normally plugged into our main desktop computer), directly into the laptop. Still, no internet connection! Then, I plugged the cable directly from the MODEM, into the laptop, and got internet connection no problem. So, in a nutshell, nothing that comes from the router, wired, or wireless, works on my work laptop. But, wired, and wireless both work on other computers.

Thoughts?

I am leaving again but will be home around 7.30-8.00 pm (PST). I'll pm my number. I and try and help over the phone if you'd like.
