Pre-2000 996 series cars ain't worth much. And there are some desperate folks in LA these days.

17k miles?? That must be a reprint... right?
Not that I'm in the market for a sports car, but if I was I'd definitely consider a 996. Not my favorite but that's a lot of car for the money. I know people say they aren't great cars to work on, but as long as you weren't paying for labor to maintain it, could they be a good car for a hardcore DIYer? Maybe that's what helps keep the price of the cars low.

Yea, in the description it says the engine is a 2002...but it also looks like there has been a lot of recent work done, clutch, water pump... a lot of car for $16K

Apparently the owner also can't get the car smogged, so it's not streetable (for him, at least). All those aero bits and performance upgrades are a lot less studly when all the car can do is sit in your garage at home. I suppose this proves that you can rice out a German car, after all.
