Does your wife hyphenate her last name?

If so, why? And how do you feel about it?

I just met a pregnant woman who kept her maiden name which is hyphenated. (She was given both of her parents last names). Let's call her Mrs. Smith-Jones. Her husband's last name is something like Groehlinger.

She is insisting that the child's last name will be Smith-Jones-Groehlinger. Hmmm...

Where does it end?

Not just no, but HELL NO!

That was decided before the wedding date was picked.

She hyphenated the other day.
I had her breathe into a paper bag.
She's better now.

A very bad habit from the Brits. How do people fit their names into those boxes on forms etc?

My ex just kept her last name when we married (she had publications with that name). It did make it simpler when we divorced

She doesn't hyphenate. We don't have a pre-nup. Not a very cosmopolitan couple.

She does get to take her own vacations, though. Maybe there's hope.

My ex kept my last name after divorce. I wanted it back. Not her, just the name.

Not that I would have NOT married her or anything, though. When she knew how I felt, I think she talked about hyphenating just to jerk with me.

I'm usually pretty open about things. If others want to do it, go for it. But for me, I somehow couldn't get over my wife not having my last name.

My wife has kept her name, but will switch to mine in a few years when we start thinking of kids. She thinks that kids should have their dad's last name, and also wants to have the same name as her kids. Ergo...

Her maiden name is Blackstone. My last name is Brown, so Blackstone-Brown would sound pretty goofy. I offered to meet her half way with Brownstone, but she's not interested.

it was on the table.

she could do whatever she wanted with the name. keep hers, hyphenate...make up new one..whatever. there are way better, more important battles. some women love the man and dont want to lose their identity. i can see that.

i love her, and she is a free woman. for the record, my last name was way cooler...

She could do it if she wanted to but she wouldn't be married to me if she did, end of story. We actually kid about it but they didn't do that 38 years ago when we got married.

My wife's maiden surname was already Li, so it sounds the same as my nicksurname. But no, she didn't change her name to mine. Too much of a headache, having just gotten her new Chinese passport and needed to show tons of docs. for immigration stuff.

My ex kept saying she would change last names, procrastinated and then we got divorced. Yup, easier in the long run!

Wife is a doctor and we were dealing with INS when we got married. The documentation would have been to much of a pain in the arse. Didn't really see the point in her changing her last name. My last name sucks. Unpronouncable Finnish jiberish.

We got married a bit later in life and I gave her the choice and said whatever she decided was ok with me. She went with my last name.
