Does any care? Nascar? Jimmie Johnson

I realize lots of Nascar haters but, you have to give this guy Jimmie Johnson credit, possibly 3 Championships in a row, pretty amazing. This fete has not been acomplished since Cale.

Has anyone on the board ever drove a race car at speed for hours??
I have done only 3, 2 Hour enduros at Willow Springs and I must say, (forget the physical aspect) but my brain was "mush" after only 2 hours in the car. I had trouble putting a sentence together

I even had a 10 minute pit stop after 1 hour.

I'm not a Jimmy fan. Tony Stewart is the man, but this Carl Edwards is growing on me. His drive yesterday was really great.

As far as what it takes to drive a NASCAR, just take one look at Jimmy Spencer. If that lardass could handle a stock car, I imagine many others could. That said, the top drivers are probably near the top mentally.

Jimmy Spencer's career was not too "stellar" , but I believe he won 1 or 2 races.
The Nascar drivers are much more fit than days past.

I hope Jimmy Spencer forgets what I wrote about him.

Chad Knaus is the reason Jimmy is successful. I believe that Dick Trickle could win championships in that car, with Knaus as crew chief.

I concur Knaus is at the pinnacle of his profession, but you have to spread it around a bit more. Hendrick provides unlimited funding and Johnson repeatedly dominates on tracks that suit his style and those tracks numbers continue to grow each year. When you got the best owner, crew chief, and one of the best drivers, it's not stretch to see where they've got to today.

It was only a few months ago that Kyle Busch dominated nearly everywhere for most of the regular season and was the odds on favorite to win the whole thing. Gremlins took care of him in a hurry once The Chase began.

While it's fun to watch racing history be made, it would be more fun to have a closer race to the championship. Edwards and Biffle are mathematically still in it, but horrible luck would have to come to Johnson to blow this.

I dunno. Edwards narrowed the gap by 75+ points this last race. If he has 2 additional wins and Johnson is less than good, Johnson will lose the top spot.

I took my son to the Dickie's 500, it was a first NASCAR event for both of us. I have to say, we had a blast. My son is a big Jeff Gordon fan and he loved watching the 24 car go around the track and listening to Jeff Gordon on the headphones. The race itself was a little dull, there were only 3 cautions the whole time and Edwards had a huge lead for about half the race.

Anyhow, we had fun and will likely go to another race, maybe next year.

It was dull because there was to much racing?

No, it was dull because the leader was so far out in front that no one was able to challenge him and he just kept lapping cars.

The only time there was actual racing and jockeying for position was off of the yellow flags.

I'm not sure I'd call a 4 hour parade lap racing. If you want entertaining racing in a circle, find your local dirt track. If you can stand the "culture", it's great fun to watch. Even better if you can find a "World of Outlaws" race. After growing up watching sprint cars and outlaws, I only lasted about 30 minutes at my first (and only) NASCAR race.

Honestly, isn't NASCAR more like a reality show? Everybody has their favorite driver, they follow the feuds, ups and downs, etc. At least F1 has the cool high-tech stuff to geek out over. NASCAR cars are about as technically impressive as a '95 Z28.

I wonder if the top NASCAR drivers trained with this legendary coach?
