Ok, serious question: if I give him my real name and address, what damage can he do? Aside from getting me on mailing lists for stupid stuff, is there any likelihood that he'll actually show up here? I think I'll play this guy, see if I can work him over. Fun stuff... Dan

+1, WTF is up with that? If you're giving away that kind of scratch, why not attach a decent car?

He was there as the president of a national car dealer's association, their convention or something. So, all flights cancelled, he and his wife wanted to get home. Ron Tonkin is a VERY wealthy man..he also owns a Ferrari/Maserati dealership. He could buy any car he wants. What did he select for he & his wife to drive home in? A few weeks later there was a slightly used Camry on the lot of his Toyota dealership. After thinking about it a bit, I think he made the perfect choice.

I wrote back and said I was very excited to have won British Pounds, but that I wouldn't be seen dead in a Toyota. I received back an apparently automated reply saying that my winnings have been forwarded to a courier agency, and that I need to contact them immediately. I replied again saying how excited I was, and inquired for details on the process. I won't let on that I work for the FBI until later. But that's a great idea. Dan

As I explained, Ron Tonkin is a VERY wealthy man...being the president of the dealer's association, I'm sure he didn't dicker with a salesman on price...another dealer probably gave him the car @ dealer true cost. Ron is a very wealthy man...thanks to those who wouldn't be seen dead in a Toyota, as well as the many who do drive them. Give him a ring sometime...I'm sure he'd be happy to place you in a Ferrari...or a Corvette...or pretty much anything you'd like. His family of dealerships enjoys annual sales of around $75,000,000 per year. http://www.hoovers.com/ron-tonkin/--ID__108305--/free-co-factsheet.xhtml Anyway...I digressed. Regardless of your choice of car, I hope you have a ball playing with this spammer...

Hmm. Interesting. They've sent me a letter saying that the cheque has been sent to OneWorldExpress courier agency for forwarding to me. They note that the address of said company is Brookford House 9 Arkwright Road Colnbrook, Slough, Berkshire SL3 0HJ. Now, oneworldexpress.com has a bright red note on their page saying that scammers are using their business name, so any idiot should be able to tell that this isn't legitimate. The interesting bit is that hotmail.co.uk lists oneworldexpress as a business with the same address as listed in the e-mail. I wonder if these people actually operate out of that address? Dan

The point I tried to make...some folks prefer NOT to drive a "look at me" car...especially if you have wealth, and are driving across the continent in the aftermath of 9-11-01.

Ok despite the butt ugly factor those are really really good cars. Have you ever driven a Toyota? Oh and since this email supposedly came from the TOYOTA CAR PROMOTION DEPARTMENT they sure as he!! better be giving away a Toyota and thats pretty well as top of the line as Toyota gets.

Isn't the Avalon one step up from the Camry? Ok, pwd, I see your point -- in the aftermath of 9/11, that makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for spelling it out for us "short bus" kids. Now seriously ... all they're asking for -- and I keep stalling -- is my address. They're not asking for bank information, anything financial, anything crazy -- just my address. What's the scam? Dan

setting you up for something or other, I'm sure. Perhaps through other sources, they already have your social security number, a credit card number, something like that. Might be time to take all materials to the cops...ask them what they think?

Oh, it's definitely NOT legit, no worries there. The grammar is poor, the e-mail accounts don't line up, and they're clearly pushing for my address. I just don't understand why. What can they possibly do with just my name and address? Might be time to actually get the law involved. Cheers, Dan
