I am VERY pleased with Apple today!

Hi Guys,
I was having a lot of problems with my 2.2 Ghz Macbook Pro. I have had to send it away for repairs to the Superdrive twice and various other things (Bad RAM, Display issues, Motherboard problems). So, today I went to the Apple Store and I explained the issues with my computer (Swelled Battery, Superdrive problem and Motherboard issues). The guy said he would be right back, and he comes back with a brand new sealed-in-the-box Macbook Pro! He gave me the option of buying a 3 year warranty with it and he also gave me a free Mini-DVI to VGA adapter for my monitor. Now call that customer service!

Justin

I've had good experiences with Apple support too, and the best thing is that you can take the machine in to see a real live person at the Apple Store - rather than spending hours on the phone with some call center in India and then packing the thing up for shipping.

I had a similar experience with my iPhone. My battery wasn't keeping its charge consistently, so I brought it to the Apple Store where they did some testing and gave me a brand new phone then and there. I was out of the store with the new phone in less than 15 minutes.

Wife went in to the Apple store this past week. A button on our computer mouse suddenly quit working two days before. Despite the long line at the Genius Bar/help desk, an employee came up to her to ask if he could help. She explained the problem to him. He asked how old the computer was (maybe four or five months), then disappeared in back and came back with a new mouse.

I dropped my iPhone about three feet and the screen broke. Obviously my fault.

Apple's only solution is a new iPhone at a subsidized price of $299. There are places that will fix it for less, though. I bought a new one.

So you dropped your phone and it ONLY cost you $299...?

As a life long PC/unix user I'm completely unimpressed with Mac OS. The hardware, in my case a G5 powermac, is beautiful, but the OS is very pedestrian. For years I've been hearing about how Mac "just works" yet when I need something more than viewing a picture I need Adobe or some other 3 party $$ software. Maybe it's my resistance to drink the cool aid (commit to iTunes and iPhoto) rather than use simple directories to organize my stuff, but I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Craigs list ad for the PowerMac and go back to something I can trust.

Depending on what you broke/generation, the lens is about $12, the digitizer is about $40 and the LCD is about $35. Or the digitizer/LCD together might cost $170.

Don't think about it unless you get the sacrificial plastic case-opening tools, and do be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes opening it if it's your first one/it's not been opened before...

Heh. I find this stuff much less daunting than working on the car I drive to work every day.

My iPhone had some dead pixels and a faulty antenna. No hoops, I just went to the store and they gave me a new one.

Have you ever tried searching for free image editing software? I use seashore and it works quite well:

http://seashore.sourceforge.net/

I do recommend using itunes and iphoto though, because they do make a mac "just work".

Plenty of OS stuff available.

Photo editing, get the GIMP.

I stil have time to buy applecare but havent yet. Next time I have to call for support, they will charge me $50 before they will even talk to me. Thats pathetic. Love my MBP though and no major problems yet to really test their support.

Yes, that's true. But I found that to be the case with my Dell, also.

And, supposedly, the telephone tech support on Apple has much lower wait times (I regularly waited 30-60 minutes on hold before speaking to a human being on Dell), and the quality of the tech support is supposed to be better. No FHE with Apple's telephone tech support, though. I live 2 blocks away from a mall with an Apple store, so anytime I have a question, I just walk to the store. If I need/want to bring my computer along, I'll drive the 3 minutes. Tech support is free. I couldn't do that with my Dell.
