Anyone bought or sold a car shipped from Hawaii?
I'm giving serious thought to making an offer on a car currently located in Hawaii. The sale would involve shipping the car to Cali. Is this feasible physically and mentally? The car is a semi rare bird. I do not want drama or to take delivery of a knotted up POS. Any intell would be appreciated. Thanks.

A friend has shipped a few things the other way, one being a pick-up he bought from me. He hasn't had any problems. He shipped a motorcycle, built a crate around it. Worked out fine.
My biggest issue would be buying something sight-unseen. Are you going to go look at it first? |

My '55 Continental Cabrio came from Hawaii. It was on e-Bay. I contacted a friend who contacted the head of the Porsche Club in Hawaii and we had a nice chat about the car. He assured me that the car was accurately represented, as he knew the car.
Transportation was no problem at all. Matson http://www.matson.com/ transports hundreds of cars back and forth every week. The only problem we encountered is that every horizontal surface that was chrome or aluminum was corroded from the salt air. You would do a little better paying for a container, but they are not air-tight. Also, many shippers cram as many cars into a container as possible, stacking one on top of another with temporary shoring. I'd hate to be a bottom, so to speak. I believe it was $799 a few years ago t get it to either docking location in California. Good luck!

Thanks for the good counsel, Barry. That is exactly my concern. The brightwork and rubber on this car are about 9.9 in condition and appearence. Downgrading either is a real negative IMO.
Gonna' be a hard decision |

You can easily have the seller obtain the film the auto makers use when they ship their vehicles and cover the bumpers and trim with it. The shipper only needs the car to be drivable to get it on and off the ship. They won't care how it's protected.

I've seen the ad for that car, very nice. If you're willing to deal with the hassle of shipping to the mainland, it's a pretty good deal. 500E is one of my all-time favorites, nice choice.

That's a nice looking Benz--good pics. You could pay a bit more to have it loaded on top.
