Crazy!

They've gone beyond supercar and built a "hypercar".

sketchers356 11-12-2008 09:56 AM

Amazing!

7.8 Liter Race Proven V8, made in the USA.

1250 hp (Supercharged) 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds

750 hp (Normally Aspirated) 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds

Quarter mile in 8.0 to10.0 seconds @ 150 to 170 mph

260-275 + mph top speed (Bonneville gearing)

Very very cool, but what type of tires will take that? ZZZ rated?

The Bugatti Veyron sells (at a loss) for over $1M, tops out at 250-ish MPH with 1001 HP. VW poured hundreds of millions into the development. The amount of tech involved with that car, from the engine and suspension to the aero work, is staggering. Vector claims they're building a 2000 HP 275 MPH car on a poorly made website? I have to see it to believe it, I doubt they have the cash to develop such an animal.

found it:

Michelin XGT + radial 255‑45ZR18/315‑40ZR19. Certified by Michelin for 200 + MPH sustained operation.

Probably the Veyron tire. Michelin developed a tire especially for Bugatti and it's ultra-high top speed.

Will this company be the farce the original Vector was?

Didn't they build something like 8 cars over 15 years?

Judging by their website and lack of real content, I'm thinking yes.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-12-2008 10:22 AM

I'm calling B.S.

It's a pushrod V8 and they're saying they're going to get 2,000 hp out of it? Bull. If they do it'll go for about 100 miles (if that) before needing a rebuild.

This sounds like glorified "redneck engineering" to me, with a healthy dose of rice-boy styling.

Here we go:

Quote:

In 1989, Wiegert's company, now known as the Vector Aeromotive Corporation, began production of the W8, an evolution of the W2. Financial backing came from public stock offerings and various lawsuits including suits against the Goodyear Tire Company (trademark infringement with the Vector brand of tires) and Vantage cigarettes.[3] Two W8 prototypes were made, of which only one ran.

One black W8 was sold to famous tennis player Andre Agassi. Since Vectors were hand built, each took some time to finish, but Agassi demanded that the company deliver his W8 as soon as possible.[5][4]

Vector delivered the car as promised. Company representatives told him that he could display it, but warned him not to drive it until the final work was completed. He ignored the warning, though, and drove it hard around his yard. As a result, the car's 600+ hp engine backfired, causing the destruction of the exhaust system and the rear interior.[5]

I think it's a scam. He (Weigert) is clearly a sheister. He is fishing for funding to keep his lifestyle going.

In related news, Motor Meister will be building the engines.....

Never liked the looks of the original vector, The new one resembles an 97 camaro too much in the front... 2000hp? isn't that above F1 & Nascar specs?

gtc 11-12-2008 12:11 PM

This is what the new KITT should have been, not some stupid mustang.

cgarr 11-12-2008 12:18 PM

Cant find the weight anywhere?

Pazuzu 11-12-2008 12:32 PM

Would you rather have a 1000HP rebodied Camaro, or a 1000HP/1000ft-lbs Caddie?

asphaltgambler 11-13-2008 07:25 AM

I'm certain the engine is a big-block Chevy based. Their horsepower numbers are easily achieved with todays technology and gear. The N/A version is way detuned. If you think about it; most of todays hardware will make at or close to 2 HP per cubic inch on 93 octane.

A car that absolutely nobody would want. Or maybe 3 people in the world. Think about it, why would you want a 2000hp, or even 1000hp ugly car? When a 480hp 997 turbo, even @ 3400 lbs. with every luxury accessory known to man, can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds and go 190+ mph? When it comes to HP, more isn't better past the amount that makes a vehicle perform well. Not in cars, not in MCs, not in F1 race cars, not in fighter jets, not in semi tractors, not in anything. It just makes them dangerous, unstable POSs.

Why not give it 4000 hp and make it go 400 mph? That would make it better, right?? What a POS.
