What is a "normal" number of text messages for a 20-something to send each month?
I'm 38 and new to texting.
It appears my 20-something colleagues grew up text messaging as a part of their daily life, and they do it quite a bit more than I do. I heard a number one guy sent in a month that surprised me. I think I probably send 20 texts a month. What do you think is the average for the younger crowd? |
You send 20 more texts a month than I've sent in my life.
But, based on how often I've seen younger people text in a 15 minute bus trip, or the ratio of kids texting while DRIVING, I'd say that they average about 620 texts a week. Maybe more :p |
My last bill had ~1400 on it. I'm 22, and texts are probably the main form of communication between my friends and I, simply due to different schedules.
And so you dont' freak out; I have unlimited. The one guy I knew back at college would regularly hit 5000+ between him and his girlfriend. |
receiving about 500/month
sending: about 100/month Most of mine are to my wife who's part of the deaf community(all they do is text) and most of the incoming are automated messages from work. |
kids these days hate talking on the phone - I know the best way to get to my daughter (16) is by texting.
Anywhere between 500-1000 sent and the same received is pretty normal. my younger employees text me more than they call me. After a few texts back and forward I usually say "Call me" cause I get tired of the small keyboard. |
Bahahaha. Twenty in a month? For someone my age (21) that grew up texting we can send twenty texts just walking to our next class. I send and recieve about 4,000 texts a month.

I text my sons to come down for dinner!
neice was over 5k a while ago |
My son's caling plan allows 1500/mo.
|
And I wonder how many are meaningful. I've never sent a text. Email is fine for me.
|
I am about 3,000 a month, I am also 43 years old and have adapted very well. My daughter is in basic training and that is the only way we can keep in contact (constantly)
|
Call them to dinner with a text, yep me too. It works well as I don't have to compete with headphones to get her attention.

LOL ur lik so old. my BFF sez text is way culer than phone. L8R.

Cell phone is just a tool for me... texting is part of that tool... I'm 50-something and I sent less that 10 texts a month. I said tool... huh... huh, huh. |
I hated it until I bought a BlackBerry. I don't know how anyone used to a QWERTY keyboard can stand typing on a standard phone. I still don't do it often, but it comes in handy when I'm stuck in meetings.

Couple thousand

for a 20'ish person? about a billion.
i don't text. period. my brother is the only one that dares to send text messages to me. if i get a text message, i usually call the sender and ask them why they don't just call me. its usually a stumper of a question for them. |
i only do about 250/ month. i know my total is way low, but i only text the girl(s) i want at the time. ;)
|
One or two a month.
|
I've received a few texts, but never sent one. ATT tried to charge me for some text messaging once, I then had the option removed from my phone. Almost had ATT removed from my phone too.
|
i refuse to text. my brother sent me 2 the other day, just to mess with me. i think his daughter does about 20 a minute, he seems to be getting close to that, yeah tim, i know you will see this but take it like a man, leave the texting to the girls and kids. :D
one of the guys here at work just got divorced, he had to go get a new phone to keep up with the texting to the "Ladies". |
