R.I.P. Big Henry

" A man's dog stands by him in prosperity, in health and in sickness.
He will sleep on the cold ground where the wintery winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only to be near his master's side.
He will lick the wounds and sores that result from the encounters with the roughness of the world.
When all others desert, he remains.
When riches take wing and reputation falls to pieces, he is in his love as constant as the sun in it's journey through the heavens."

Rest in peace Big Henry, my loyal friend.

FOUR FEET

I have done mostly what men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can't forget, if I wanted to,
Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through--
Wherever my road inclined--
Four-Feet said, 'I am coming with you!'
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round--
Which I shall never find--
Some where that does not carry the sound
Of Four-Feet trotting behind.

Sorry for your loss. Big Henry was a good lookin' fellow.

I feel your pain, we lost our 8yr old St. Bernard Chloe just about 2 mos ago.

One month of silence was enough in the house and we welcomed Abby into our family. She was, strangely enough, born on the exact day we got the diagnosis of bone cancer for Chloe.

Thanks to all for your words of comfort, and the cute puppy picture. It has been a very sad day here. Big Henry's brother, Buddy, is at a loss and keeps looking out the front window. I think he is waiting for his big brother to come home. I have to say I must have the best vet in the world. She came to my house and put him down on his bed in front of the fireplace where he liked to lay. There was not a dry eye in the house. Now it is time to heal and with the help of little Buddy we still have the sound of a dog snoring at the foot of our bed. We will always miss him, but he will live in our hearts forever. You all are the best friends I have never met.

R.I.P. Big Henry

Sorry to hear of the loss of your obviously beloved dog. They are a true blessing and devoted companion. The loss is painful ( been where you are 3 times over the years). I can't imagine ever not having a dog around.

A vet like yours is a true gift. When it was time for my best buddy BooBoo. It was a beautiful fall day. I took off from work to be with him and enjoy his companionship until the final moment. Our vet arrived, which by this time BooBoo was lying on his bed. She administered the dose while I held him close. It was a sad day and still makes me sad to think about.

You can never replace the dog as they all have their own personalities, but I have found that getting a new one...when you are ready...will bring the joy back.

scottmandue 11-14-2008 09:26 AM

So sorry to hear, condolences.

I feel your pain.

I lost my blue heeler Bandit a few months back. It's tough.

9dreizig 11-14-2008 09:52 AM

This is really hitting home as I just found out from my ex I' have to put my dog down when I get back to NH next week.. really tough

deanp 11-14-2008 10:15 AM

It's amazing how our pets touch our lives, how we can recall certain events based on the pets we had at the time.

For us, the end with Choe was bitter sweet. We knew there was no chance for her, due to the aggressive nature of her diagnosis. We made everything of the month after the diagnosis and prepared ourselves as much as we could. In the end, we knew we were doing the best thing for her to end the pain, regardless of how hard it would be for us.

I hope Big Henry passed without pain or suffering in his final days. I hope Buddy remains strong and you can console each other. He needs you now as much as you need him.

Go give Buddy an extra hug from all of us.

RIP Big Henry

I remember when he was sick a year or so ago... it was pretty close there for a bit, eh? I'm sure he was never taken for granted, and lived as good a life as a dog could have.

My condolences.

As is my tradition, I will make sandwiches for my dogs tonight in honor of another dog's passing. Daisy gets a tuna on whole wheat, Chance gets a ham and cheese on a kaiser.

The dogs won't know why, but you will know two dogs are being spoiled rotten tonight in Big Henry's honor.

pwd72s 11-14-2008 11:13 AM

All who have lost pets know the feeling...the hurt. Still, it doesn't reduce the pain...only time does that. Doesn't make the pain go away, time only makes it hurt less. My sympathy.

flatbutt 11-14-2008 11:24 AM

So sorry for your loss bro. My ol' girl is really long in the tooth and I know the day is near.:(

RIP Big Henry, and don't go chasing my old girl Layla where the big dogs go to play forever...I'm sure he gave you lots of happiness, and I understand your loss. Be well...

DARISC 11-14-2008 03:34 PM

My condolences.

I've missed my Airedale, Daisy, for decades. I love all dogs, but Airedales.........well, they stand alone.

Heaven is comprised of 5% humans and 95% dogs. Be good and he'll be waiting there for a belly rub. Sorry for your loss man.

lm6y 11-14-2008 04:11 PM

Sorry to hear this Dave.

RIP Big Henry, we'll watch over Dave, and Buddy for a while, you go rest now big fella, you earned it.

When a good owner loses a good friend, I always wonder which one was luckier. It seems all of us with pets are truly blessed.

Gotta go love on mine for a while.............

Scooter 11-14-2008 04:21 PM

That is a great looking dog. I am so sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-14-2008 04:59 PM

What a great name for him David, easy to see there was a lot of love behind those eyes, and I'm sorry for your loss.

My dog passed away a few weeks ago. She was really the best, born on my birthday, she would have been 14 this Sunday.

What a gorgeous lad he was!

RIP Henry.

My condolences.

targa911S 11-14-2008 06:09 PM

Targa has been reading aloud all of your heartfelt responses to our precious Henry's crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I must thank you all for your empathy of our pain. No one understands the unconditional love of a dog unless they've walked in those shoes. Henry left enormous shoes, but, I think Buddy is up to the task. Thank God for him tonight Thanks for your thoughts -- they really are special to us...we had no idea we could produce so many tears. Let's hear it for the ugly cry!!!

luv 2 all,

Mrs. Targa/ Mj

Little Buddy too.

Mrs. Targa, we may fight a lot, but like any family we are there for each other when it counts!

Big Henry looks like he was spoiled rotten, your family did well.

Wickd89 11-14-2008 07:23 PM

artplumber 11-14-2008 07:26 PM

Big looks like he owned the house. What an expressive face!. I'm sure he owns doggie heaven too.

targa911S 11-14-2008 07:37 PM

Thanks for being here for us. Henry will live on forever in our hearts. Thanks for sharing. A crisis shared is a crisis diminished.

David
