Best Buy....extended warranty.....good results

I'm not normally a extended warranty guy but when I purchased my 50 inch Magnavox DLP rear projection TV almost 3 years ago I decided to do so. Last Saturday night while watching a college football game the TV suddenly made a VERY LOUD pop ! And then the picture was gone I figured the projector lamp blew up. I called Sunday morning and actually talked with a human that spoke english The call lasted aprox. 5 minutes and the person on the other end was friendly, courteus and knew what they were doing. The call ended with a date set for yesterday for a technician to come to my house betwwen 12-4. Yesterday morning the tech called me at aprox. 8:00 and said he'd be there between 11:00-1:00. At 12:45 he pulls into my driveway He came in, I explained what the issue was and he started the disassembly of the front panel. About 15 minutes later my set was up and running with a new bulb installed. No questions regarding proof of warranty,no hassles I didn't even have to sign anything. I even asked if it was a aftermarket bulb vs. OEM and he showed me the stamp stating it was a Phillips bulb ( oem ). I couldn't be happier and the picture is fantastic!!! Just thought I'd share a good story.

If you saw the performance of my portfolio over the past 6 months you wouldn't be asking me for advice

My 60" Sony rear projection set blew a bulb this summer. I called the Best Buy recommended service company. They told me I had an extended warranty, which I had forgotten.
They picked up the set, then returned it a couple days later. No charge.
A three year extended warranty I had added to the puchase price for around $125.
It paid off this time.
I usually don't go for the ex warranties. Especially the new car ex warranties.
I'm happy.

I'm glad it worked out. Extended warranties are typically never claimed. That's why everybody makes money on them. For the floor salesman, he often puts as much in his pocket from the warranty as he does from the video sale.

As for the lamps . . . when the specs say 5000 hours or whatever, that is average rated life. Average . . . so 50% will die before 5000 hrs . . .
