FEG PA63 Makorav type pistol. Worth $160?

I am thinking of picking up a Makorav type PA63 from a friends cousin who is a dealer for $160. Good deal? He bought a bunch of them recently and they look brand new. After googling for a short time, it looks like folks are satisfied with these Hungarian military/police guns.

My wife, daughter and I are getting our CCW soon and I could use one more small semi-auto to go with my wife's Bersa 380. Anyone have any thing good or bad to say about these PA63's? I have found cheap Russian ammo for about $160/1000 rnds and am thinking this would make a nice CCW piece for me.

I am going to a gun show tomorrow and hope to find a used small .22 auto for my daughter. Thinking about a Pheonix, Taurus or Beretta if I can find one in the 100-150 range. I stopped at a local Gander Mountain on the way home from work today.... the gun area was PACKED with people. Amazing to see how many people are stocking up on weapons and ammo!

I am guessing the gun show will be PACKED tomorrow compared to previous shows at this locale.

Really long, stiff trigger pull. Otherwise ok.

Just the first shot if you do not cock it first?

The D/a is really stiff and long, after cocking its still very much a "military" trigger, but not as obnoxious.

Can't see how you can go wrong for $160.

Any chance the guy will let you fire one or two clips thru it? At least then you'll know what you're buying.

I doubt it, as they all slathered in cosmoline. If anything is wrong with the gun, he would make it right as he is family member of a good friend. After doing some more reading last night, it appears that these are indeed nice little guns and were used/issued by the Hungarian military/police up till 1996. They kick a bit more than a steel on steel Makorav, but that is a non issue for me. I am going to buy one, as are some co-workers.

I'd rather see you with another Bersa. The FEG is a Walther PPK 'clone' with an alloy frame. I guess they're shooters but a little rough around the edges. A Kel Tec shouldn't go for much more, and is much smaller for cc use. How about a KT in .32 ACP for your daughter?
Re a Phoenix, have the seller dis-assemble the thing to show you how 'easy' that is before buying one.

That looks like the Sig P230SL I shot last weekend. My father bought it as a small, concealable "summer gun" and it's nice to shoot and easy to carry. I'd stick with the Sig, but that's just me. $160 is pretty cheap, though...

Perhaps I'm a bit jaded looking at them from the dealer end. They wholesale for $100. If $160 is a good buy so be it. They are NOT like a P230.
At least I haven't seen anyone saying how great their Hi-Point is on this forum.

I and one of my co-workers each just paid $170 a piece for two of them at the gun show. They each came with two clips, a cleaning rod and a box of 50 rounds (better deal with the extra clip and ammo). I heard nothing but good things about them in regard to value for the money. A simple reliable weapon at a cheap price.... perfect for what I will use it for.... CCW and plinking.

FEG PA-63 vs wife's Bersa 380.

Also picked up a nice small bipod for the AR15 as well as another 30 round clip (just because they will likely be unobtainable soon ).
