R.I.P. Sid Agrawal

I was reading the news paper this morning and saw the headlines about it. http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_10988123?source=rss_viewed

Sid was one of our customers at the shop that I work at. I just gave him a ride back to work Thursday morning. We had a great conversation about his car and other things. I am still in shock. My condolences to your family Sid.

Dan

My 1st job outta college was working at Channel 11 there in the news dept. We went to a shooting in 1 of the business parks. Perp armed w/ a 30/30 and a shotgun. I remember rolling up and a guy in a shirt and tie walking toward officers down the middle of the street...he'd been hit by the shotgun. Surreal watching this guy and all the officers huddled behind their cars. He was covered in little red splotches. Later that nite, another victim was brought out (she spurned advances of the purp, and how it all got started). She got it w/ the 30/30 about the clavicle...you could see right thru her as she was walked to the stretcher. Lotsa nut jobs out there.

Would not have done them any good, most likely. There is no way that I'm going to carry a gun around every minute for the rest of my life on the off-chance that some nut-case goes postal. These types of shootings are actually one of the strongest arguments for the gun-control crowd, the fact that every angry sociopath in the country owns a gun or three is unacceptable to most people.

I'm for the 2nd amendment, but this is the ugly side of that freedom.

Not trying to offend anyone, but the fact that the person knew that no one one would or could shoot back may have helped to enable him. He probably would have done "Less" damage with a knife, axe, club, or any other means, or he could have gone to his local drug dealer and picked up his gun. We all know how well the existing laws have worked to corral the drug trade. Wait a minute......didn't mean to start a fire storm.

When people snap hard like this, it is always a suicide mission so getting shot after carrying out his mission would be no deterrent. You're saying that some tech geek could find a drug dealer to loan him or sell him a gun on zero notice?? Riiiiight... I'm no geek, live in urban L.A. and would have no idea where to find a quick street gun if I needed one pronto. You're dreaming. Plus if the gun-control people had their way, every petty criminal would not have a gun collection. The point is that America is flooded with handguns, legal and otherwise. I live in the real world and own a gun or two but know what they can and cannot do for me. Carrying one around all the time would not increase my safety, just the opposite. That's a fallacy.

No sir. I'm not saying that. Even suicide missions are planned, (most) very detailed actually. and probably his. Consequences for the (any) criminal (which we now seem to be lacking, actually for anything) seem to be non existent. I would not expect a tech geek to know where to look for, borrow or acquire a gun illegally, nor would I expect most people to know where to acquire a gun on the spur of the moment for self defense. What I was trying to suggest is that the more gun control laws that are enacted on responsible people the more opportunities criminals have to plan on getting away with their crime. Criminals will never be with/out guns...hence my reference to the drug trade. From what I have witnessed, the laws regarding the drug trade have made no difference, in fact, I believe that the drug trade is flourishing. (maybe I'm wrong) Money is to made in the drug trade, and it will be so when our government outlaws our rights to own guns as well. More opportunities for criminals to sell more guns to more criminals. The gun control people cannot control which criminal has a gun "collection" any more than they can control what criminal has a drug collection. You are right America is flooded with handguns, rifles, shotguns, and lot's more, they will not go away, but laws outlawing them may make several million law abiding Americans law breakers as well. I do not carry a weapon on a daily basis although I also have "one or two" and also know what they can and cannot do for me. Fortunately I have not yet been in a position on the street when I wished I would have had one or have had one to protect someone else. I do know people who have been in that position and now am considering CCW. I do "carry" at all times on the road. Having the ability to help some else, as in this instance may have saved a life. Sorry for the (probably off topic) response. I'm done.

Thanks for the talk, and sorry for the delay in responding
Karl

Well Dan, I guess this one hits really close. I work in the same building as SiPort and was standing outside having a smoke when this all occurred. The guy must have walked out to his car while I was standing right there. I was talking to two co-workers and didn't pay any attention to just another person walking to their car in the parking lot - little did we know a triple murderer had just walked past. I didn't know anything had happened till people started running from the building - I never heard a single shot. Shortly there after SWAT and what seemed like the entire SCPD surrounded the area. We housed the police and SiPort employees in our offices while they swept the campus, after they cleared the immediate building they setup headquarters in our offices and started taking statements from us and the SiPort employees. I was one of the last to leave the building at about 8:30 and it was pretty jarring to see the empty parking lot with only the cars of the victims. Still a bit shook up, such a pointless tragedy.

Brandon, I had no idea that you worked there. Small world indeed! Thank your lucky stars that you did not come in contact with this nut case.
Just got through reading this mornings paper and read that they caught the guy. I figured that he would most likely take his own life before being caught. He probably would have done all of us a favor if he had.
