Ammo sales laws in your state...

I stopped by a national chain sporting goods store to pick up some hunting boots and wandered over to the gun counter. They had a special on .22 LR's so I picked up a few bricks. They also had a great sale on .22-250 varmit loads and I pick up a few boxes of these.

Its been a while since I bought ammo....my brother usually supplies me with whatever I need. For some reason I thought you had to show I.D. when purchasing ammo. I know you have to be over 21 but I thought you had to show an address with picture I.D.

Anyways....I walked up to the regular checkout and they rang me up and out I walked with 1000 .22 lr's, a case of shotgun shells and 200 rounds of .22-250 no questions asked.

Does your state require any I.D. when purchasing ammo?

Can't buy ammo in DC (no sellers), but I can go to other states (VA & MD) to buy it. I'm required to have my gun registration with me if I'm carrying ammo in/throuugh DC, and the ammo better be of the same caliber as the gun I've registered, otherwise, I could be in hot water.

No ID required to buy ammo in VA or MD.

How much was the .22-250 and what brand? I need to stock up on that. You can pm the answer if youd' like.

Thanks,

Bill

No ID
No quantity limits. Cash & Carry

One state maybe Indiana I had to show ID to buy black powder once 20+ years ago. I don't remember for sure.

Surprisingly in CA, no restrictions. Cash & carry. I think they could theoretically card you to make sure you're over 18 just as with cigarettes for example but I've never been asked.

Florida (and fed law) says over 18 for rifle/shotgun ammo, 21 for pistol ammo. You won't get carded unless you look too young.

I have to have a FOID card to buy ammo in Illinois.

I must be 18 to buy rifle & shotgun ammo and 21 to buy handgun ammo. I'm 30.

Whenever I buy .22LR, I get asked if it is for a rifle or handgun, I always say "none of your business".

I also tell the clerk that the 9mm is for a rifle...

***

Went to buy ammo for trap shooting a few months ago with a guy from Missouri.

Clerk to me: "Do you have your FOID card?"

Me: "Yes, right here."

Clerk to friend: "Do you have your FOID card?"

Friend: "No, I'm from Missouri."

Clerk: "Oh. Okay."

Firearms ID to purchase ammo in NJ. They also log the type and amount of ammo in a book, next to your name and ID #

Kind of like asking for ID to buy paper for your printing press. That too would be wrong.

I think Wal-Mart checks ID in AZ, but otherwise it's cash and carry. I usually buy online.

Rick, I checked prices recently on the sight you recommended (ammunitiontogo.com). The pricing is great, but how much do they charge to ship? Is there a hazardous fee? If so, is it a fixed price no matter how large the order is?
