80 mph is too fast for most places in L.A. There are just too many cavalier drivers (for whatever reason) who don't check their mirrors before they pull into another lane. Catastrophe, at that rate, looms...

Don't even get me started on the left lane issue
![]() I pull right for anyone faster than me, even if I'm going over 100 (and I have, especially in Houston.)

Of course once I get ten miles from downtown I'm lucky to hit 25.

Listen, I don't say I don't drive fast. But there is a time and place for it. The Garden State Parkway during rush hour is no place to be driving over 100. I dont care what you are driving.

I drive the Garden State Parkway every day, I`ve been doing it for 6 years and never got pulled over.
74 mph is my cruising speed on week-ends. During the week, I go with the left lane flow, which is ~80 mph. I try never to exceed 85 mph, but since I have put the 911 back on the road, I may have done short bursts to 90 mph, going from one pack of cars to the next one... Aurel

Having logged too many trips from Florida to NC and back to count, this being a 1500 mile trip I can say it all depends on the car your driving and the road conditions.
In my RX7 and my 911, 100 seems like slow motion, even more so in my Audi where it seems to come into itself at 100 and I had to set the Cruise control to keep from getting in trouble because I would catch my self doing 110 in it and no even realize it. This, of course, is on wide open roads with no traffic. In my FJ Cruiser, 80 seemed like 120 and I would be more comfortable at 75 in that tank. It took longer to stop and it did not avoid things in the road as well. Driving on I-26 in South and North Carolina in the middle of the night? 100 MPH in my 911, RX7 and Audi and 80 at best in my FJ. Driving through Jacksonville Florida at 7 PM? 60 MPH at best more like 50 to be safe in ANY car. If your weaving through traffic and moving a lot faster than your going too fast.

I vote... Retard that has no ragard for those around them. I drove with you on the Dragon and I still regret to this day that I let you get inside my head and that I drove the way I did with you. When I saw you had a wife and children I was shocked you drive like a single man without a care in the world. You sir are an idiot that is always out to prove something on the road, I nicknamed you Psycho Boy at the first dragon meet because that is how you drive, like a psycho. Its not being old its being responsible, its being able to calculate the risk and make a sane decision to not chance it. A characteristic you seem to lack..... Look at your sig line.. you seem to be impressed with yourself because your average speed on an 11 mile stretch of road is 60 MPH of a road with a posted limit of 30 MPH...... impressive.

17 yrs of cutting victims and fatalities out of car wrecks has definitely changed my outlook on the way myself and other people drive.
Last yr we had an incident, where four HS seniors were killed. They where in a Caddy CTS. On the way home from school. They crashed and the car burst into flames on impact. Needless to say, they where burnt to a crisp. The two in the back seat where still alive while the car burned. Investigation and eyewitnesses(one was an police officer in a unmarked car) estimated the car was traveling between 80 and 85 at the time of impact. The road has a 45 mph speed limit. Whats even worse, was the innocent woman that was killed when the Caddy hit her vehicle head on. Luckily her kid in the back seat wasn't killed , I guess the baby seat saved him. This woman was minding her business just driving along. Killed because of some idiots stupidity. Plus you have four sets of parents who lost their children. We where on that scene for hours while the investigation was going on We had to stand there and watch as these parents freaked out over what happened. the driver of the car literally lived in view of the crash scene. The father ran down the road to the scene. The police had to restrain him. This was one accident I wish I could erase from my memory. But it wasnt the first and wont be the last. Oh yeah, there was another car involved. Another student. he racing behind the Caddy, and had passed it earlier. The police determined they where racing, even though the driver denied it. He was charged with voluntary vehicular manslaughter.

I drive as fast as traffic permits, but usually try to not maintain a travel speed in excess of 100. Except in the Range Rover - above 80mph in a lifted rover with 32" mud tires is scary.

For our highways in CA, 80 mph is a somewhat safe average but that being said there are many factors that go into my decision. To me, before I get behind the wheel of a car, my car and my person (me) have to be in excellent condition.
Accidents are caused by so many factors and the largest contributors in my opinion are tires and car control. If you walk through a parking lot of your local grocery store I can bet that you will find at least 4 cars with balding tires and no grip. What people do to save a buck costs others a hell of a lot more. My opinion in short is if you own a car you need to be responsible for the car just as you would a child which means you take care of it and you should be allowed to own one if it is not safe to drive. Cars are not just this a to b thing and kind of makes me sick the neglect that people have for their cars.
