Personal air sampling pumps for the windblown dust effects. The ones with the metal funnel-things and red tips on the bottom are for respirable dust (less than ten microns) the other two are for total dust.

Is this for the effect on this film or the actors? None of the civilians have them.... I guess I don't understand it...

The special effects guys were dumping bags and bags of a fine dust called Fuller's Earth in front of huge fans. Only the actors were in the dust, not those behind the camera. We don't use Fuller's Earth anymore, it contains crystalline silica which is bad for the lungs.

BAZ, I put the coveralls on at the last minute because it was starting to rain and I quickly realized that I was going to get real filthy real fast. I have lots of cool photos from my shows, now a days, I tend to get lazy and not take as many.

I was a consultant to Fox back then, I only worked on the dust issues, not the rest of the movie.

Trekkor have you seen Journey to the Center of the Earth?

Different vibe...less gritty...but a fun movie just the same.

Agree the newer Apes movies have been great.

Originally based on a book by French author. A scientist couple finds a "space message in a bottle" while traveling through space in their space vehicle. They retrieve it and within find a story and and SOS of sorts. After completely reading the story, the wife comments, something like: "Well that is all fine and good but really, imagine that, smart humans!"

Have you heard of "Planet of the Apes"?

The movie, or the actual planet?

The new musical starring you Troy McClure.
