Insurance is most definitely not fair. What you described seems to be exactly their attitude. We put through a claim on our house insurance last year when our car was stolen (for contents of the car) and the broker said if it was under $1500 it just wasn't worth it, because our premiums would rise and if we had another claim within the next year it would be "difficult" to process it. That's just complete BS.

Tough neighborhood it would seem.

The only issue I really ever had with insurance was having the wheels and tires stolen off of my very basic econobox Pontiac in college. The insurance company wanted to deduct dollars for mileage on the tires and asked me to approximate the wear. I said "no problem, but I was planning to head over to the dealer and get the replacement wheels, run over to the tire place for tires and have them mounted and I'll bolt them back on myself. But given your interest in my tire wear, I think you can pay the towing to pick the car up+ plus the shop rate+ anything else they need to take care of and I'll just let the dealer fix it."
The whole wear thing on the tires conversation was over pretty quick after that. |
