eminem

I've listened on and off to Eminem and other hip hop over the years, but a few months back I bought the Curtain Call album off iTunes for reasons I can't remember. After having listened to it a fair amount I have to say I think some of his stuff is pretty amazing. Not sure how much of it is Dr. Dre's production but given Dre's stuff it is an influence but not the whole story.

Tonight I've been working over "Like Toy Soldiers" which is a mashup sample of "Toy Soldiers" by Martika and some of the drum bits from "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" along with a rap criticizing the rapper wars and resulting murders.

Anyone else a fan, or is everyone here a hater?

btw, evidently he has a new album coming out early next year.

I like very little rap music, but eminem has 1 or 2 'songs' i can get into a little.

I've personally been BLOWN AWAY by some of the new Guns and Roses stuff. The song This i love is as epically good as November Rain or Don't cry. Axl's voice on that track is amazing. I was really stunned, i had NO IDEA Axl was still all that.
It's got a great Robin Fink guitar solo in it too. I have little doubt that when they release it as a single it will hit #1, and get them a sure fire grammy nod.

Eminem is talented beyond all get-out. I'm definitely a fan.

FWIW, he's considered to be one of the smartest and most creative artists working today by most in the recording industry. He's the real deal, IMHO.

big fan. i hated him at first but he quickly hooked me.

however, i find his stuff very inconsistent. when its great its really great...but that only seems to be about 20% of his output. unlike notorious BIG and 2pac who were consistently amazing.

He's got some decent stuff, which is saying something, because the I like rap/hip hop as much as I like country, and that's not much at all.

Big fan. But the language is such that I have limited time to play it. It's not exactly PG.

I always have one of his CD's in my car.

Not a fan.

I like some rap but eminem always comes off as a wannabe to me. Don't know why.

I used to listen to him, but generally don't listen to any music with "bad" words due to my five year old. I stick to good wholesome music like Black Sabath, Judas Priest, & Pantera. I like the new G&R.

Another fan here, but it takes some work. You can't listen to the crap they play on the radio or TV, you have to actually get an album and listen to the whole thing, maybe a few times. His best work is (as is often the case) not advertised much. The albums are well constructed as a whole, and taking individual pieces out does not show his talent.

He's like Prince...amazingly talented on many many levels, yet under appreciated (hated even) by the general public because they only know him for a few videos.

I've been a fan for a long time. I'm not crazy about everything he does but some of it is pretty good. I'm a big Kid Rock fan too.

Don't like rap/hip hop at all.

That said, his "Stan" song hit while I was in college and I did find it pretty chilling and clever.

What's the deal with him and his ex/un-ex wife?

I think he's got a wealth of talent, and a gift for the language that would rival poets laureate.

I don't groove on everything he's done, certainly, and he's got a thug/playa image to maintain for cred (read: "sales") but he's an artist.

I listened to someone singing Eminen at a Kareoke bar over Thanksgiving. Damm, those words are complex and fast.

We like a couple of his songs, liked his 8 mile movie. We as a family are not consumers of rap - the last thing my kids need is more exposure to profanity (count the f-bombs) and violence. To be frank we just don't identify with the target audience.

We're a mix of hard rock, country, classical, and pop.

When I was much younger, I banned myself from making or thinking this statement. Of course, with kids now (and a far busier schedule in general), some artists/songs are not given the same listening opportunity they would have been in another time.

"Curtain Call" is a good entry point for anyone who has never given Eminem a chance.
