It's a good start. One of the nice things with digital - you get to take hundred's of pix and get instant results.

Read up on the rule of thirds. There's a time for your subject to be in the middle, but others, the subject should be at the top third or bottom. I actually liked the uncropped version better.

First is also my favorite, And I like the uncropped one better also. A guy edited it for me and said it was better so I posted it to see what people say.
I hate that he took out the drain.

I agree on all points. The grass growing in that drain helped breakup the asphalt of the parking lot.

I enjoyed the second photo...there is something about the green drain and how it draws my eyes to it and then to the background images.

I think you're off to a nice start.

I'm trying to learn motorsports photography, but it really isn't so easy. Anyway, the thing I really noticed between my humble efforts and a pro, is the focusing. It's really something I need to practice, I think once you start to achieve a sharp image, then move onto composition and lighting effects.

Good luck with your photography and as others have said, the great thing with digital is you can take 200 shots for 1 good photo.

I hope you don't mind....

original.

After some PS.

I got rid of the drain and some other leaf material around the asphalt, took out the phone lines on the right and sharpened.

I shrunk the image to be able to save a better quality JPEG.

I also think the first is the best from all the car shots. But I think number 4 is the best photo, you have a nice sharp focus, small depth of field which draws you to study the mesh.

I have to say I'm not so sure about the drain. I think it distracts the eye from the subject (your car), it makes my eye switch between the drain and then the car.

Anyway, I admire your courage to have us critique your photos. Share your results the next time you take some photos.

I have to agree with tabs. You asked for opinions, so here's mine. When I look at the pictures, I'm not sure what your point is. If you're trying to feature the car I don't get that pull. If you're trying to juxtapose the clean car with nature or urban (ala #1) I don't get the impact there either. #4 from the first set is the closest to my taste. I like some of the textures, but the lack of color dynamics again makes me feel like something is missing.

My advice would be to forget the car and shoot other things that you see around you. Try extreme closeups and have something dominate the frame. The tendency of a lot of people is to do a "medium shot" and that ends up usually being pretty boring.

That said, if *you* like the photos that's all that really counts. But if you want others to be moved you've got work to do. It took me many years just to get to where I think I'm starting to get it right some of the time.

If you're interested I could crop a few of the shots and show you what I mean. But I have to get this proposal out of the way first.

I understand but I think your a little harsh. I have only took 200 Pictures TOTAL using a DSLR so im just woundering if you guys think these are good for a starter.
All my photos are pretty much untouched because I dont know how to use photo editing.

Please do edit them and post them back.

Since you do not have any photo editing skills yet, can you increase the sharpness setting in the camera? BTW, what are you using? Camera, lens...
