about 50% of the time that I actually attempt to focus on schoolwork...considering the fact that it has been about 18 hours a day the last week, I've been putting in solid 9 hours a day...that won't slow down for 2 more weeks until I get a glorious and much needed three week vacation.

Oh Haha 12-05-2008 04:13 PM

I'm usually in the office by 6am and I shoot to be home by5pm for supper with the family. My office is 6 miles from home so I can work right up until it's time to go. I don't really take a break, so to speak although I do eat something around noon. I spend a lot of time in the car seeing clients and accounts, solving employee problems, planning projects, etc.
We have end of the day items that need to be finalised and each fiscal period we have reports and inventory to do which I have to supervise. My boss is 60 miles away so we communicate by Blackberry ALOT. As well, any client emergency must be dealt with quickly and that could mean a sudden drive to a city up to 80 miles away to problem solve on site.

Yes, I find time to get dogfood, drop mail off, and (OMG )surf Pelican. Some of our accounts are retail stores so I can see a client and pick up an item if needed.

All in all, I would say I work an average of probably 10-11 hours a day but that doesn't take into consideration that I am constantly running over things in my mind. I like to work 2 weeks ahead so that I minimise surprizes. I'm also a clean desk freak. I strive to finish each day without anything left undone barring long term projects.

All that said, I really do love my job and the challenges each day brings. Truly, no 2 days are alike.

EDIT: As the "boss", I am on call 24/7.

Is anyone hiring?

islandnine11 12-05-2008 06:43 PM

30 hours every 4weeks.

This 'work' concept is, how you say in you language?..... not something I know of....

on2wheels52 12-05-2008 07:52 PM

I'm the entire workforce; one minute I'm sweeping the sidewalk, the next making a loan at 180%. Who's going to check out that PS III before it gets sold? That SIG .40 may be defective, better take it to the range this weekend before selling.

I don't actually do anything. And I guess I put in a fairly full day at it too.

I bust my ass from the time i clock in until its time to clock out, not counting the hour for lunch.....maybe someday it'll pay off....

desertt5 12-05-2008 09:37 PM

At least 1 hour............... a week

Joe Ricard 12-06-2008 04:33 AM

Hmm, Depending how many people break things. My job consists of fixing everything from Databases to Processes.
Some days nothing appears broke = long days.
Somedays everything is Effed up = time to go home already?

So far everytime the boss takes a promotion I get brought along.

A calm day in summer sometimes virtually nothing if no patients admitted. Pretty rare occasions though.

Most night shifts nowadays are 16-18 hours non stop work.

Since this is a public forum, I'll just say not as much as I should. A few years ago Pelican Parts was blocked at work and I got a bunch of stuff done that week. Apparently an executive was blocked from shopping online for a new TV and the blocks were lifted :D

Ever so often I'll go a whole day without going to PP. That's a busy day!

sammyg2 12-06-2008 11:12 AM

In all actuality? I make about 5 or 10 decisions in an average day. At least half of the rest of the day is spent studying to make the right decision.
The decisions either save my company money or costs them money, often to the tune of millions.
Sometimes I can earn my paycheck in the first 15 minutes.
For the rest of that day I'm just a leak in the payroll ;)

Zef 12-06-2008 04:53 PM

37.5 hours / week.....same beat.

artplumber 12-06-2008 04:57 PM

A lot more would be possible, except people keep interrupting me asking questions like how much work I actually get done every day.:p
