Anyone into tribute bands?
I went to see these guys last night and it was the best $15 I ever spent.
http://www.theatomicpunks.com/ I felt like I had been teleported back to 1981 and was watching Van Halen record at Sunset Sound. I'm still in awe of how good these guys were. Obviously, I was watching every single move by the guitar player and, while I disagree with his version of one or two small things, he crushed just about everything. Every crazy sound you ever heard Eddie Van Halen do on a record, this guy nailed it. Scraping his tremolo springs in Everybody Wants Some, doing the helicopter noise from Romeo Delight, every fill in I'm the One, he nailed them. But the drummer really stole the show. If you go see VH nowadays, Alex is still great, but he doesn't nail all the little accents and cool stuff he threw into their songs. This guy nailed them all. When I went to their site, I saw he also has a Rush tribute band. Go figure. Anyway, if you guys get a chance to see this band, go see them. You'll be singing along and having a blast. The Rush tribute band I saw here a few weeks ago was pretty good, but had nothing on these VH guys.

The Atomic Punks are the greatest, even David Lee Roth mentioned them in his book saying "they do Van Halen better than VH"! I'm a HUGE VH myself and know Ralf the singer. I've played in many tribute bands and have opened for the Punks as well at Paladino's in the San Fernando Valley a few years ago. My first tribute band was an AC/DC tribute band based out of Orange County called OC/DC. My next one (and most successful) was a Megadeth tribute band called Hangar 18. We played lots of gigs all over California and got to headline a major Metal show in El Paso, TX and also opened for Danzig in Vegas. Unfortunately I had to quit my band when I moved to Phoenix but have been performing with an Iron Maiden tribute band out here (and a G'n'R tribute for a short time) since 2005 now!

Axeman, when are you guys playing in Phoenix again? I'd love to see that.

I think those guys were playing in Vegas when I there a few years ago. I will catch them one of these days.
