The wife and I decided not to exchange gifts.

I really hate to buy gifts just for the sake of buying gifts.
I need nothing, she needs nothing.
Of course the kid will have plenty to open.

This has a bad ending either on Christmas eve or day.... It has never worked for me. Usually the "No Gift" idea is broken by insincere acceptance from one party.

Ditto Cindy & I. Whenever we want-need something, we usually just buy it throughout the year. Why wait?

We buy whatever we want or need and dont use Christmas as a reason to exchange gifts. I just bought tires and she said '"Merry Christmas" which is fine by me! We concentrate mostly on our daughter.

Don't do it!

I don't like to buy my wife "things". She has what she needs. This year I'm giving her a gift certificate for a weekend at the Ritz-Carleton at Half Moon Bay. It's the promise of a great weekend and a reminder that I still love to spend time with her.

My wife and I will be arriving in Shanghai on Xmas Eve Chinese local time. Xmas day we're riding a bus for four hours to Nanjing. No point in either of us carrying stuff to China that we'll only use at home, especially if it's valuable. We haven't discussed this yet, but I suspect no presents this year only.

Very cool...good to see the 3 of you again. Sorry we had to scramble, but we did beat the snow. BTW, great gesture on your part. Jack talked about our visit the whole way home. He thinks you and MJ are (to borrow from Stu) as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Concerning the gift thing...never underestimate the power of a well thought out gesture.

The wife and I stopped giving Christmas and birthday gifts years ago. She sometimes gets me a little trinket, and I the same for her, but never anything extravagant. Mostly it's stuff "from the kids" for each other.

We've done that for years. Christmas is for the kids. We're not into buying stuff for each other because you're "supposed to." Makes us inclined to do the opposite.

Great seeing you both as well. We never get to spend enough time together. YOU are the main contributor to the "get a new puppy" fund. I hope you like your purchase as well.
Glad you beat the snow, Jack emailed me when ya'll hit the door so I knew you made it ok.

I'm looking forward to the spring ATF meeting.
