If you want an affordable smoker that really works great, check out a Weber Smokey Mountain (around $200 or so). I can load one up with brickets (and soaked wood chunks for smoke) and easily go for 15+ hours at a steady 225 with no problemo (and never need to add fuel). I love mine...
